Default EBR for home defense?

I'm curious as to who actually keeps an EBR handy for as their primary home defense weapon. I thought about it and for my situation it just seems like overkill. I'm not saying you should or shouldn't and don't sit in judgement of anyone's defense plan, I'm just curious.

For me, primaries are handguns, but 12 gauge pump, Ar15, and M1A stand ready if needed, just in case.

M1A is my go-to weapon for home defense. Anything worth shooting, is worth shooting with a high powered rifle.

I keep it with a fully loaded 20 round magazine, chamber empty, safety off. It has a floating firing pin and is thus not drop-safe, which is why it has an empty chamber. The way I see it, if I have time to reach for it, grab it, and bring it to bear, I have time to cycle the op rod.

I have soft points loaded in it now, but I've been tinkering with the idea of frangible rounds.

AR-15 carbine, collapsible stock. Small, light, and 30 rounds of lethality. The closest neighbors are about 100 yds, and we live in a stone house, so I am not worried about stray rounds.

Ricochets can be bothersome, though.

None of these are my "primary". The situation dictates which one I would reach for first.

Currently, these are the arms at hand...

Within arms reach of the bed: Glock G27

Within 3 steps: RRA AR-15 carbine

Within 8 steps: Mossberg Persuader

Within 10 steps: Glock G19

Holy crap, I'm sleeping in an armory.

I got the 3at and the nine the wife has got the 12 and I could be in the amory in less than a minute. Oh poor home intruder. My neighbor would be over with the 357 and sks before the first shell hit the ground.
So the AK wouldnt even need to come out of hiding.

Default Re: EBR for home defense?

Years ago, I had a Mossberg 500 bullpup for HD, under the bed. One day, I thought someone unknown was coming into the house, so I reached for a gun. It was a handgun. I sold the shotgun a week later.

Now, under my bed, I have an AR, but next to the bed on my nightstand is my 1911. I figure if I have the forethought, I'll grab the AR. But if not, those glowing green dots tell me where to reach.
