Default 1918 trench knife.....legal?

http://arms2armor.com/Knives/m1trench.jpg

This is a real example of the 1918 trench knife issued to soldiers. As you can tell its just simply Badass
Im a big WWI fan, and i would like to add this to my sharp collection.
Obviously i cannot offord the real thing, but im looking for one that is 440 steel.
Because of the "knuckle-duster" hand guard, is this legal? Not to carry, just to collect and have at home.

Look like a mean dagger. I don't know PA laws thoroughly but a dagger is no no for carry in CT and GA. However, I know a dude who killed wild pigs with them daggers. He just snuck up to them pigs and slaughtered them. When asked why he did it, he said something like: that's a real man sport, don't ya think. I thought he is borderline stupid, some domestic dogs got killed by them hogs recently. it could might well be him, hehehehehehheh

Yeah, i dont want it to carry around. i want it for the collector in me
Ferral pigs are no joke to mess with. Those tusks can do some damage, but if i was starving on a island, i would most definatly take the pig on, with the knife on a 9 foot pole!

I would think that there would be no problem with it as part of a collection. You might be better served to talk to the local PD or even the state police if you feel that it would be borderline questionable though.

Well, what im worried with is the "hand guard" on it.
I know a few others have asked knife questions before, just curious.

I would think something like that falls under the category of brass knuckles or butterfly knives. Both of which, as far as i know, are illegal to have in PA.

ianal, but i think you could own it for curio, but you would bear the burden of proving that you owned it only for that reason.

Title 18: Crimes and Offenses; Section 909: Prohibited Offensive Weapons

Quote:
(a) Offense defined.-A person commits a misdemeanor of the first degree if, except as authorized by law, he makes repairs, sells, or otherwise deals in, uses, or possesses any offensive weapon.

(b) Exceptions.

(1) It is a defense under this section for the defendant to prove by a preponderance of evidence that he possessed or dealt with the weapon solely as a curio or in a dramatic performance, or that, with the exception of a bomb, grenade or incendiary device, he complied with the National Firearms Act (26 U.S.C. §5801 et seq.), or that he possessed it briefly in consequence of having found it or taken it from an aggressor, or under circumstances similarly negativing any intent or likelihood that the weapon would be used unlawfully.

....

(c) Definitions.-As used in this section, the following words and phrases shall have the meanings given to them in this subsection:

...

"Offensive weapons" Any bomb, grenade, machine gun, sawed-off shotgun with a barrel less than 18 inches, firearm specially made or specially adapted for concealment or silent discharge, any blackjack, sandbag, metal knuckles, dagger, knife, razor or cutting instrument, the blade of which is exposed in an automatic way by switch, push-button, spring mechanism, or otherwise, any stun gun, stun baton, taser or other electronic or electric weapon or other implement for the infliction of serious bodily injury which serves no common lawful purpose.
again, though...i am not a lawyer.

I was thinking the same thing...as far as the curio status.

If you keep that knife as part of a knife collection, and do not carry it...I don't see the problem. I'd put it in a glass or Plexiglas case to help show the fact that the knife is not used.

If you keep it at home and only show friends and family, who would know you have it to arrest you?

And if you did get arrested for some really strange reason...you could use the display case and other knives in the collection to show that this knife is a curio and part of American History.

Whats the chances of getting arrested for having that thing at home in a case???

You might want to ask a lawyer first....but I'd keep one here with no real worries.

I'd be just as worried about removing the DO NOT REMOVE tag from a mattress.
