Default Applying Weapon Shield to firearms

PRIOR to applying the Weapon Shield, should I clean the guns (with lighter fluid, Hoppes, etc), in order to remove oil, Breakfree CLP and grease?

Default Re: Applying Weapon Shield to firearms

It wouldn't hurt to pre-clean the firearm prior to using Weapon Shield...but I don't think it's necessary. I do still use Hoppes solvent to remove the bulk of powder an carbon deposits, but the WS seems to be a good cleaner on it's own!

At camp last fall, I shoot my Walther P22 until it wouldn't cycle anymore! I took some WS and put a few drops in the critical areas, wiped off and re applied. I was able to get 300 more rounds off before it started to FTF again. After that, it got a good hoppes bath and re lubed with WS! But this stuff seems to work good!

PS...sorry, I missed your question in the GB thread. This is a good question though...perhaps some others will have more advice for you!

I clean with Hoppes, etc first.
Although WS states it's a cleaner, it did a crappy job when I cleaned my P7 with it, so I re-cleaned the gun and then lubed/patch-through-barrel/wiped down with WS.
BTW: I love the festive holiday scent of WS; like Yankee Candle's "Home Sweet Home."
