Default ? re:Alleghey Permit process

I let my permit expire, and like a dope, let it ride well beyond the grace period.

I stopped carrying around the house , and had to take my stuff out of the cars when we had to take custody of a couple of troubled grandkids. But that's another story. So I wound up not carrying for a while.

Anyway, I need to get my permit back.

In Allegheny county, is the Firearms Division back in the court house?

Do I still need to bring in my own photos ?

Thanks

Check out this thread for some info

http://www.pafoa.org/forum/allegheny...-long-ccw.html

Also, check the Sheriff's page here http://www.sheriffalleghenycounty.com/firearm.html

On the right, everything you need is outlined.

FYI, It doesn't matter if you let yours lapse or not, they go through the entire process for a renewal. There's absolutely no benefit to renewing vs. re-applying. You still need references, two forms of ID, etc. Be prepared for a 45 day wait.

You may be thinking about the time period after it lapses. I think you get 90 or 180 days that you can carry with an expired permit. I would definitely not suggest it though.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Guys ! I do recall I waited 42 days back in 98 for my last permit. But now with instant, instant checks, we should be able to walk out with the paper.

My coworker from Washington county tells me he went in last week , and walked out 10 minutes later with his ID card. WTF !

As a side note, I've seen a lot of people saying that they were made to wait to full period allowed by law before they received the yellow approval card.

I'm not sure if there is an official change or if I just got lucky but I applied for my permit at the end of February and received my approval card in the mail on March 15. The card was stamped March 8th.

Hopefully this is a sign that they've realized that making us wait the full term even though to the best of my knowledge they still only do a PICS check is a little bit silly.

Talking Re: ? re:Alleghey Permit process

I WENT FOR A PERMIT RENEWAL ON MARCH 7.YOU GO THROUGH THE FRONT DOORS OF THE COURTHOUSE, AND GO TO THE OFFICE ON THE LEFT COURNER IN THE COURTYARD. YOU MUST GIVE THEM YOUR OLD PERMIT AND YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE. YOU THEN FILL OUT A FORM WITH 41 SPACES, NAME ADDRESS, ETC. AND SOME QUESTIONS. YOU MUST HAVE 2 REFERENCES NOT RELATED OR LIVING WITH YOU. NAME ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER. YOU GIVE THEM THE COMPLETED FORM AND THEY TAKE YOUR PHOTO. THEY HAVE YOU FILL OUT A YELLOW CARD AND TELL TOU 3-5 WEEKS YOU WILL RECEIVE THIS BACK IN THE MAIL. IF APPROVED, BRING $25.00 CASH AND YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE BACK AND PICK UP YOUR NEW APPROVED LICENSE. FUNNY, ALL THIS AND SINCE I HAVE APPLIED FOR THIS RENEWELL, I HAVE BOUGHT 3 PISTOLS, AND A BUSHMASTER A3M4 RIFLE. THIS WHOLE SYSTEM IS A JOKE. JUST MAKE SURE IF YOU LIVE IN ALLEGHENY COUNTY THAT YOU VOTE AGAINST THE APPOINTING OF A SHERIFF, INSTEAD OF ELECTING ONE.

I suspect part of the issue is that the office processes these in batchs instead of in a continuous stream. They may wait till the stack is 38 days old, or 10 inches high, which ever comes first.

Yep it's still there. It'll be the room with the loud-mouth short-haired-short-guy that's very condescending working in it.

that's the way it was in allegheny county under defazio, too. the interim replacement for defazio, however, is anti-gun and has publicly stated he would do everything in his power to make it as hard as possible for citizens of allegheny county to get guns.

everyone needs to consider temporarily registering as a democrat and voting for damon j. brown in the primary in may.

If Damon J. Brown gets the job, he should consider replacing the two yahoo's that work in there now. They were nice to me and all, don't get me wrong and I don't blame them for waiting so long BUT they're highly unprofessional, inefficient and very crude. When I was there, the lady burnt her finger on the machine and started screaming "FUCK" about 2 dozen times. Not that I don't find it hilarious when people hurt themselves and curse but I expect A LOT more from someone in uniform and toting a gun.
