I am a diehard leatherman supporter and wouldn't take a gerber tool if it was given to me.
OK, that's not true. I did take a free gerber tool one time but gave it to my G/F to keep in her car. There is simply no comparason in the quality. Leatherman uses the best steel, has cutting edge designs and stands by their product 100% I've had the same leatherman tool for 7 years and I've done things with it you would never be able to do with a gerber. Leatherman tools have no wasted space inside the handles with the tools perfectly machined to fit together. - Gerber uses little shims and washers to space their inferiorly designed tools. Leatherman tools are much more streamlined while folded and the plier design (while not as one hand friendly) is inherently stronger. Leather man tools have a superior locking system (my gerbers is plastic) Leatherman tools (some models) have blades you can acess from the oustide. The juice series comes in many colors and is packed with more tools than you can shake a stick at. Leatherman is leading the industry with tools made of Titanium for strength and light weight. Some leatherman tools use bit drivers instead of fixed screw drivers to give you the option of dozens of bits or 1/4 drive. I cut everything from 9 wire to chainlink fence with my leatherman and it's still good. I cut the end of a bobbi pin with that gerber tool once and it nicked the wire cuters. I could go on all day about why the leatherman is superior, but I don't want to get a cramp in my hand. Just buy the leatherman and then you cn get on here 5 years from now and tell us all how impressed you are and how you couldnt live without it.

Seriously, just look at them both side by side and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I have had and lost both!! I currently have a Gerber stainless that I love. I actually liked the gerber locking mechanism better, as I have had the Leatherman slip closed in the past!
But I would be fine with either! And naked with out one of them. I was working on Christmas Lights outside today and didn't need anything more than my trusty belt tool!! |

My large Gerber I`ve had over 10 years. I bought it to replace a Leatherman I lost. My Gerber has seen, sulfuric, phosphoric, caustic potash and caustic soda. It`s had gear oil and antifreeze on it. It`s all stainless.

I have a broken Gerber (the locking catch on the pliers part broke for some reason.) everything else still wrks fine, will get it fixed some day
Also have a Winchester that I keep in my truck at work, it sucks. I'd get another but I carry enough junk in my pockets now, keys, cell phone, compact LED light, Gerber folding knife, wallet, Digital Voice Recorder, PA OC Flyers (10), loose change and folding money...... |

Gerbers are now made with cheaper steel, and I believe, made in china or somewhere like that.
I have 2 old Gerbers that are great, 2 years ago for Fathers Day, my son bought me a tiny Leatherman and that's what the salesman told him and my wife, which is why they went with the Leatherman. Works fine, carry it everyday.

This is like the AR vs AK or 9mm vs 45 debate. My personal expeirence is that I beat the heck out of the leatherman Ive had for about 15 years and nothing is broke on it. My friend is on his third gerber that the pliers have broke on. Gerbers are nifty but a leatherman is as bare bones as you get making it built like a tank. I have never heard of anyone breaking a leatherman then having to replace it. Most of the time people loose them and have to replace them. Maybe leatherman needs to install gps on their tools then you would never have to get another one. That might not do so well for their sales. Nevermind thinking aloud again.

I have a schrade. It lives on the coffee table. it is sturdy enough. The knife is even sharp. At some point I had to decide what to carry around. I have the hand gun, knife, mag holder, flash light, cell phone. I need to start wearing a second belt or get fatter.
