It took me about 3 weeks to get my first permit in Pike County in 2002. Don't sweat it. Give it some more time. They have 45 days to either grant you or deny you. If they deny you, you can appeal to the State. To find out how, call the local Sheriffs office.

It took me about 4 weeks in Pike County. My app was in about 30 days when I went there to get fingerprinted for the Florida non-residence LTCF (they have reciprocity with 30 states, PA only about 18). The secretary said I was approved and my app is on the Sheriff’s desk, all he has to do is sign off on it. She said they had about 100 apps for him to sign.

I asked the Chief Deputy who fingerprinted me if he could see where I was in the system. He said it usually takes less than 3 weeks and he checked with the Sheriff. The Sheriff was signing a bunch of apps and he did mine on the spot! 10 more min and I was on my way with my new permit!

I live in Pike County, and this is my 2nd renewal--which is why I'm concerned that its taking this long. Last time in 2002, it was instant when I walked in.

In thinking about it, a permit means nothing in PA. You can still purchase a gun with drivers license, and use, just not concealed carry. Unlike in NY where you need a permit to own.

The LTCF (permit) allows you to transport your gun and ammo in the passenger compartment without the need to unload it and separate gun/ammo and put in the trunk. It makes it that much easer to go to the range ;-)

What if there's no trunk, such as a SUV, or an open pickup truck?

You should follow Title 18 United States Code Chapter 44, SS 926A.

http://www.nraila.org/federalfirearms.htm#Sec.%20926A

Sec. 926A. Interstate transportation of firearms

Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle:Provided, That in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver's compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console.

Hopefully, I will get approved.

Still I don't agree with the locked case or trunk or the way in which the law is written. However in my case its more for self defense on my property, and target practice at the range.

For Lehigh County, I used two references in the county. Neither of them were contacted, and I received my CCW in about 2 weeks. This was my first time applying, at the age of 21.

I'm confused. I also live in Bethlehem, but was required to go to the County of Northampton's sheriff's dept. over in Easton.
Most of Bethlehem is in Northampton County, but a small portion lies in Lehigh County, or so I've been told.
