Thanks for the heads-up on this. Though I still don't see one in my future.

Having owned the real deal HK years ago (like a fool I sold it during the ban) and now the above pictured PTR I can say that it is as close to a HK as you will get. JLD purchased the original HK tooling from Portugal and do a great job on these puppies. That said, if I were a billionaire I would still buy a original HK. For the rest of us a near perfect "clone" for under $1K can't be beat. Fit and Finish is excellent. I have always been a big fan of the HK 91 & 93 so I hope my bias is forgiven.

Huh. I have a PTR 91. One of the arly ones when they still used the polygonal rifling. It's an extremely accurate rifle. You mileage, of course, seems to have varied.

HK may be pricey but in regards to quality aubie515 is the very first I have ever heard that was not happy either with the HK or PTR.

PTRs are "supposed " to be better?? Why are you suggesting the PTR if you do not know for sure.

I have shot both and own a real 91. The PTR/JDLs are not bad if you can get used to the plastic (navy) grip. I can't. So if one can swing for a used HK-91, go for the gold - better investment.

They are very cool guns, Broomhandle had one at the July WPA group shoot.

(Only gun that day that bruised my shoulder.. but worth it )

I HAVE owned both - both are excellent rifles, and BOTH will serve you well under most any conditions I can imagine.

That said, I still own a PTR91-KPF...

I guess I'm #2.

I have no experience with the PTR's but I did own an HK91. Extremely well made for a "sheet metal" rifle, "teutonically" over-engineered in all the right places and more accurate than an MBR has a right to be.

However, I could not get past the rather poor human engineering, poor balance and I very much disliked the diopter rear sight.

OTOH, I would never have felt disadvantaged if I'd have had to use one to save my skin.
