Default Accuracy of laws, asking lawyers

How much can I depend on the accuracy on defense laws if something would happen and I would have to go to court? I have read the "Pennsylvania Laws Relating to Firearms" book that our Representative provides to us. The law states thing about be able to defend any person that you feel would reasonably want defense. I am not quoting because it has been a while. I guess that I am asking, how close are the written laws to the way the courts will judge. What are my odds of not spending time in jail if I had to use my gun on someone inside my home at 3 AM, or not get sued if my Rottie chomps a leg at 3 AM? I hope it never happens, but I hear the horror stories, and it seems that in those situations you must decide if you could lose a family member, or have your children grow up without a father. I would love to sit down to supper and a beer with a lawyer familiar with this topic.

Thanks for visiting our forum! If you ever plan to return you should consider quickly registering for a forum account, especially if you're in Pennsylvania. It's simple to do and best of all free. Once registered you'll be able to participate in our discussions and keep up to date on issues important to Pennsylvania firearm owners!

What I recommend to my clients is to shoot if you would prefer jail time over whatever will happen if you don't shoot.

Lethal force is a final resort, after all other options are exhausted. It always carries with it the possibility that 12 people will come to a different conclusion than you did on the scene.

Doing some jail time is better than having your wife or kids killed. It's better than being killed yourself.

Jail time is NOT better than watching someone drive your car away, or letting some punk get away with robbing the corner store. It's not even better than letting someone get away after raping your sister. You can't shoot in revenge, it has to be to stop some wrongful imminent threat to life or limb.

If you kill another citizen and manage to avoid jail, that's a bonus, but you never get a free pass on shooting someone, it will always be second-guessed by people who weren't there.

Lethal force is like amputating one of your arms. Sometimes you have to do it to stop an infection from killing you, but it's never your first choice.

GunLawyer has pretty much covered it and it's been discussed before so I'm closing this one down.
