Default Gun Buybacks in Philadelphia

I keep hearing about gun buybacks in the news the day AFTER they happen. Does anyone know of a website or some place I could go to find out about future ones. I contacted the police department, but I didn't get anywhere.
Thanks.

I'd think twice about transferring your gun to another party without a PICS check first. This is a violation of the law, and the party giving the firearm bears the burden of the penalty, while the recipient does not.

I think he's referring to the gun buybacks that the police dept offers, where you turn in a firearm and they pay you cash for it, no questions asked.

It doesn't matter. ANY firearm (*as defined by the UFA) transfer without a PICS check is a violation of the law. There is no exception if the police are the ones conducting the program.

Hmmmm...good point Greg. I never thought about "gun buybacks" that way. Something to think about for sure.

Not if the cop you hand it to is a parent or offspring.

Interesting point though, this whole gun buyback scheme might be considered entrapment in PA...

It should be called a gun turn in, buy back would infer fair compensation. My old neighbor in Philly was a PPD corporal and a gun nut. He told me a woman came with a German Luger, M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, Colt 1911, and German grease gun that belonged to her husband (WW2 vet)and she didn't want her kids to get them when she died. Needless to say she got more than the $50(at the time) gift certificate in retun and the guns didn't get melted.

I've always been half tempted to go stand outside one of these & see what people are bringing in. Offer them double what the police are paying.

Anyone know if this is legal. I realise pistols would have to be transferred thru FFL, but rifles could be a easy transaction
