Weird things a happen.. there are slight differences in the requirements for purchasing a firearm and getting a LTCF.

The dealer should have gave your cousin a form to appeal the denial with. It should be filled out and mailed to the State Police as soon as possible. If there are any questionable events in your cousin's history, like an arrest that never led to a conviction - I'd be sure to be forthcoming and provide an explanation in a letter attached to the form.

I got denied once(was reversed after appeal), and all my background checks go to the operator still today..

Just have him fill out the form and mail it in..

Red face Re: DENIED BUYING GUN ?

THANKS KNIGHT0334

They did give him a form to fill out and mail too the PSP asap or in 31 days
they will be knocking on my cousin door. Does anybody have any knowledge
of the difference between obtaining LTC AND BUYING A GUN because im confused,
I would think the sheriff department would have denied him the LTC
first before he attempted to buy his first gun.

Thanks for you help and advance knowledge !

I'll keep you guys updated.

Tell your cousin to send the form in, and wait.

the same criminal background check that got him the permit waspretty much the same thing that got him a ndenial.

could be something like a goofed SS# versus his Drivers License #, or he may have the same name as a felon, or what.

unless they totally goofed the check for his permit, he should be able to buy a gun no probs.

send the form, get the answer, i doubt the response will be a warrant for his arrest.

I had a problem with a purchase.
The state's records had my SS# off by one number. It was several years ago, but I think they OK'd it after a short conversation on the telephone. I had my SS card with me as well as several other forms of ID - I think that helped. I was told to go to the PA driver's licensing center and fill out a correction form.

I was denied at first too but I expected it. I'm a victim of criminal identity theft. Basically someone I know used my name and SS# when they were arrested a couple of times - 1 was a felony arrest.
Eventually it all got sorted out but now my name is an alias of this person. Which means every time my name is run this person's name and convictions come up.
The operator at PICS tried to determine that it really was me buying the firearm but wasn't sure. I look similar to the person who did this to me.
So I filled out a challenge form and they replied that they needed my prints to compare to the arrest record prints. I sent them my prints and they sent me a paper back stating that the denial is reversed.
It also says to keep the paper and I need to have it every time I buy a gun.
The whole process took about 3 weeks.

Its actually easier to purchase a firearm than to get a ltcf. When the check is run for a ltcf any drug charge will disqualify the applicant where as for the purchase of a firearm simple possession will not. I'm baffled on this one. Keep us posted if he finds out why he was denied.
