No argument taken Tony, I respect your opinion as I feel you do mine.

I knew my thoughts on the matter differed than what was said to date.

That's the beauty of this forum. You can find opinions from a professional firearm instructor (Tony) to Mr Average shooter/enthusiast (me) and everything in between. It's up to the reader to decide what may or may not be sound advice for him/her.

Maybe we need to agree on some definitions.

Whether a particular rifle shoots a particular load accurately is one thing while adequately stabilizng the bullet is another.

Is your 1:7 keyholing the 75 gr TAP or is it a matter of the TAP not being as accurate as the 80 gr ammo?

My 1:9's shot 55-70gr without problem as did the 1:7.

Barrels have personalities of sorts and sometimes there is little rhyme or reason why they like what they like. With some powders or bullets I'll see poor groups around 100 yards but very tight at 200. Some bullets get a little wobble at the muzzle due to various factors and take a while to "go to sleep".

I've had really poor experience in .284 with the Hornady A Max bullets with the long taper boat tails. Since I shoot very slow powders in that caliber the excess blast seems to destabliize them a bit. Flat based and small taper boat tails like the Nosler BT shoot bug holes. If you're shooting out of a 16" barrel and still burning powder it might be what you're seeing.

I'm want a defensive rifle that might be asked to bump around in my vehicle. I don't see the need for the traditional carry handle but I would like to add backup(optics)..so co-witness is the sight confiquration I'm after. I'm wondering if a RockRiver Forged UTE2 Upper Receiver would be a good option for an upper?

Stay with the flat top. As your needs change, you may want to change optics and configurations. Don't get raised rails or irons as part of the upper if you're looking for versatlity.
