If you're off the coast of NY or NJ no hollow points and no hi cap mags. When I applied for my LTCF I checked off self defense that goes for armed burglars, car jackers, muggers, murders, rapists, arsonists, terrorists, all around general bad guys as well as lions tigers and bears BANG BANG, Besides that what the nice lady behind the counter said to check off because that's what it will say anyway

My Sheriff is known as generally being a 2a supporter. The one thing that surprised me when I went to fill out my application is that the "Instructions" provided to me with the application said "Please be specific when requesting the type of license you want...multiple check offs are OK. When checking "Self Defense" please give a short statement under "Other" to explain why this category is needed...(Example: "Carry money home from business" or "Transport gun from business to home")".

I put down "Traveling at night, transporting weapon while traveling", because I wasn't sure how they'd react if I left it blank or wrote "Because I can" (or something similar).

[quote=str8shooter;37026].....and I'm carrying a sidearm under a big coat through the woods while hunting, am I carrying a concealed weapon illegally? Can I check more than one answer?

Along with your PLTCF, while hunting you probably should have a Sportsman Carry Permit. They are available through your county Treasurer for $6.00 and is good for 5 years.

As I understand it, the Sportsman's Permit does not provide any additional legality to carrying (open or concealed) while hunting. If you have a LTCF, specifically issued for Self Defense, you should be good to go.

I believe as mentioned in the OP, 'carrying under a heavy coat', this is deemed to be concealed carry even though you are hunting. Hence the need for a LTCF. The Sportsman's permit allows for open carry for the purpose of taking game and in no way allows for concealed carry.

Agreed, but I'm unclear as to why you'd suggest getting the Sportsman's Permit in addition to the LTCF. If you already have a LTCF, what does a Sportman's permit add to the equation?

I suppose my original thought might have been that the Sportsman's permit might be an easier/cheaper alternative to a LTCF if only for carrying while hunting. I did reread the OP and this came up as secondary to the question 'which box to check'. Sorry about going off topic.

I believe it is a bogus block that they want filled out as some sort of regulative survey. They think up different and stupid ways of surveying us and different topics as well, so they know better off how to F@*k with us down the road with newer laws
