Default Question about 1911's

Anybody know the difference between 1911's between manufacturers. Mostly curious between the Taurus and Springfield. I realize that quality may be different, so I am looking for something more. What is different???

Thanks!!!

Besides fitting and perhaps varying safety features....not much difference.

As lycan said, a 1911 is a 1911.

Some are put together with lower clearances than others. Some use MIM parts, some don't. That is basically it.

That and materials used and production methods, Like some slides are machined some are forged and some are cast. Some have aluminum lowers some have steel and you can even get composite grip frames (not a fan of that, but what ever does it for ya)

SA makes a great product. You can pick up the phone and talk to the people. They do whatever to make the customer happy. I have Taurus handguns but not their 1911. I just feel their 1911 are the next tier down. Not bad but not the same.

I have Springfield and Taurus 1911s. Quality on both is excellent. Never any problem with either. Taurus gives you bells and whistles for less.

Taurus, Springfield, Kimber, Wilson.

Some have tighter clearances.

Some run smoother & more reliably.

Same basic design though.

Granted I have a couple Kimbers and a STI....and I'd buy a Taurus. They shoot as well as anything under $1000. Grips suck, but that's easy to fix.

I bought mine new last year for $699. It's a Springfield Loaded in SS.

The Taurus is a nice gun for the money, this one on gunbroker for a buy-it-now of $650, that you could get for less maybe.

I'm not a fan of the billboard Taurus put on this gun, but if it could be buffed away, it would be fine.
