Default XDM mag issue...

I have a XDM 40 with the 16 round magazines. I just noticed this the other day at the range and it struck me as a little odd. If I load more than 7 rounds the 7th round is loose in its spot in the mag but only with even numbers. So if I have 8, 10, 12, 14, or 16 loaded the 7th rattles. It happens with both mags. Doesn't seem like a big deal, all the rounds still chamber with no issues. Anyone else ever experience this?

Hey Spab,
I just loaded mine up and it does not do this, however the rounds sit kinda far from the holes in the mag.

My M&P 45 full size does the same thing as your xdm

I also checked my mags after reading this. One of my mags rattles a little bit on the 12th round, the other doesn't at all. I've never had any issues with them.

its not just XDM, but many other double column maag do this.

for instance, my M&P9C's 12rds mag rattles when I have 11rds in it, but not with 10 or 12. Nor 8 rds. but thats only with one of magazine.
I disassemble mag, and switched mag follower/spring between rattle mag and non rattle mag, and rattle follows follower/spring. Its something to do with follower/spring.

But my M&P9 full size dont do this. But I think my G-17 did the same thing, and so did my CD HP when I had it..

I have a XD subcompact abd 3 out of 4 of the 10 round mags have bullet movement at the 6th or 7th round. My 2 16 round mags dont have this problem. I find this actually helpful in a way. My carry ammo comes in boxes of just 20 rounds so i have one mag with 10, 1 in the pipe and a spare mag with only 9. If I take the mag out for whatever reason I just shake the 2 mags, the one that rattles is the full one. I know there are witness holes but often I leave or come home from work and my honey is sleeping, so I dont turn the lights on.

Also, the rattling does cease when the clip (j/k) is in the gun.

Thanks for all the responses. I emailed Springfield , they told me to open a warranty claim...... I think that maybe alittle excessive. I just thought maybe they would have a quick fix for me. No Biggie, I was more curious than anything else.
