Rifle Scope Question
Please forgive my naivety...
I recently acquired a scope, and the inside of the front (toward muzzle) has threads (similar to a camera lens for the application of filters). However they are a bit stripped.
Is this a concern? What are these threads used for one a rifle scope?
Should I return it?N.U.G.U.N. "New User of GUNs Blog"

Re: Rifle Scope Question
those threads are for a sun shade, its just a hollow tube that you can screw into the front of the scope to reduce the glare of the sun.
did you buy the scope brand new from a store or from a person used, and what are you using it for, if your using it for varmints or long range paper shooting, I would want a sunshade and i would return it, but if its for deer rifle i wouldnt bother with it"Skin that'n pilgrim, and I'll git ya another"

Re: Rifle Scope Question
Bought it brand new, it would be for target and varmint shooting. It was just a cheapie from Walmart (all I can afford at the moment).
I imagine I should be able to return it.N.U.G.U.N. "New User of GUNs Blog"

Re: Rifle Scope Question
Return it, without a doubt i would take it back, and i would also look into a sunshade if thats what you plan to use your rifle/scope for

Re: Rifle Scope Question
It sounds like it's made another trip or two out of the store and back. I've always used filters, even if they're just clear to protect the optics. Scratch the filter, and it's cheap and easy to replace, scratch up a lens and it'll cost a lot more to replace and then you need to resight it.
