At present I have 2 (Polish
![]() & Hungarian Versions) just sold one (Russian Version) last month. You may want to consider Handloading ( I do) because most 7.62x54R Ammo on the Market is corrosive junk! Here are some Links that will be helpful & informative! http://7.62x54r.net/ http://www.surplusrifle.com/mosincarbine/index.asp http://www.russian-mosin-nagant-foru.../smf/index.php |

I have 2, a really nice tula 1946 model
http://www.bigboomstick.com/guns/46TulaM44.jpg and a polish m44, thats more like an m38...it has no bayonet, nor does it appear to ever have had one. http://www.bigboomstick.com/guns/polskam44.jpg you know these little carbines with bayos were meant to be shot witht he bayo EXTENDED...right? learned that on eon a mosin forum after my shots all strung left. buy up all the x54 surplus you can, its cheap, it keeps forever, and the corrosive ammo is easily cleaned up. just remember to thoroughly hose the bore down with WD40 or such before casing, and leaving the range, it can literally rust ugly on the way home, on a humid day. I CLP and boresnake all my bores before i leave the range, corrosive ammo or not

Wow ok, i understood the bayonet thing, but everything after that was another language i assume you mean the 7.62x54r ammo by "x54" and using WD40 on your bore?? i tried that once and was promptly corrected by at least 8 of the 10 range members present that that was a really really bad practice (but then again, what do i know). On a side note, where do you buy your ammo from? I've been looking around and at gander mountain it's around $14 for 20rds... am i overpaying or is this just cheap and don't know what i'm talking about?
thanks for the info as usual Quote:

I'd like to see a closeup of the muzzle on this gun. The stock is an M44 stock, but it might be an M38 action. |

Yes, "54R" is vernacular for 7.62mm Russian. This is a metric ammunition size, which is more consistent than ours & the old British system. It's simply the nominal bore diamter and the case (excluding the bullet) length. The "R" specifies rimmed ammunition. So, 7.62x54R is 7.62mm bore, 54mm case length and rimmed head.
![]() Click on the image above for more details. You shouldn't be paying much over $2 for 20 rounds. Most of us buy it in bulk as military surplus. As such, it is seldom packaged in nice 20 round boxes. Most 54R comes in 440 round tin cans, which contains 22 small bundles of (usually) 20 rounds each. The current batch of Czech 54R silvertip is supposed to be very good and does come in 20 round boxes. ![]() I encourage you to buy in quantites no less than 880 rounds to 1. save on shipping costs and 2. to get the can opener which you will need to get your ammo out. ![]() The can openers came with the original military case of 880 rounds, therefore most bulk sellers will not release one for purchases under 880 rounds. Simplest approach here is to repost Clark Magnuson's list: http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/linksammo.htm http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd/default.asp?mscssid=06G0XS1RHSPH9P... http://www.cdnninvestments.com/ http://www.grafs.com/index2.cfm?cat=...mmo.html&num=4 http://bulkammo.com/ http://www.ammoman.com/ http://www.midwayusa.com/ http://www.triton-ammo.com/index1.html http://www.rbcd.net/ http://www.aimsurplus.com/ http://www.triton-ammo.com/index1.html http://www.centuryarms.com/store/index.html http://www.centuryarms.com/catalog/119915.htm http://www.centuryarms.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Co... http://www.centuryarms.com/ http://www.samcoglobal.com/order.html http://www.kiesler.com/kieslerhome.html http://www.jgsales.com/ http://www.tapco.com/ http://www.shooterz.com/ http://www.sb-usa.com/ http://www.ammodeal.com/ http://www.rtcsports.com/default.asp? http://policeammo.com/ http://www.summitammo.com/ http://www.proload.com/ http://www.polywad.com/ http://www.black-hills.com/ http://www.cole-distributing.com/ http://www.cascade-ammo.com/ And add: http://www.dansammo.com/ammo.asp http://www.ammobank.com/ http://www.ammodirect.com/ http://www.ammoman.com/ http://www.ammodepot.com/ Also see: http://tinyurl.com/2rzck9 |
