unloaded = no problem. The question is: are you allowed to have any shells in the mag and out of the tube and/or can you have shells in the trunk with it?

Ammo must be in a separate container. If the ammo is touching the firearm in any manner it is considered loaded. A separate container can be a different compartment. EG. A flap pocket on your shotgun container. One of those slide on shell holders that slips on the stock is a no-no.

i was under the impression that if you had an LTCF you still are unable to have loaded long guns in the car. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I am fairly certain it is still illegal.

No loaded long guns can be transported in a vehicle, licensed or not. There are only a few exemptions for that for LEO's, military and security folks while on duty.

Sorry, but a LTCF only applies to "firearms" as defined in 18 PaCS §6102:
Quote:
"Firearm." Any pistol or revolver with a barrel length less
than 15 inches, any shotgun with a barrel length less than 18
inches or any rifle with a barrel length less than 16 inches, or
any pistol, revolver, rifle or shotgun with an overall length of
less than 26 inches. The barrel length of a firearm shall be
determined by measuring from the muzzle of the barrel to the
face of the closed action, bolt or cylinder, whichever is
applicable.
So, unless you are talking about a SBS, then no, your LTCF does NOT allow you to carry a loaded shotgun or rifle in your car.

You left the "F" off of the LTCF and that is the rub. Long guns do not meet the definition of "firearm" in PA and therefore are not covered by a LTCF. Unless you meet one of the narrow exceptions, a loaded long gun in a vehicle is prohibited.

Be safe (and get a short barreled shotgun).

Scott

Fast? I had to get up out of bed and off of my phone and walk into the office so I could answer this one! I don't have the UFA bookmarked on my phone.... I've since corrected this oversight
