Whether you agree with the OP or not, that's the facts. Don't tell, where lawful, fine by me. In fact, I prefer it that way. Just know that more
Murderers and such are caught by traffic stops for "revenue tickets" than you might realize. Ever hear of Timothy McViegh?
And if I pull you over, you deserve the ticket, but I do realize that there are others in my profession with an agenda to fullfill.
Ok, I've got my suit on....flame away!

Warren Jeffs was also arrested during a routine stop because the officer was paying attention.

Not sure what your point is, but we could probably catch lots of criminals if we established random checkpoints where you'd have to show your papers. Heck, it's just a little expansion of the DUI checkpoints, right? Maybe we could get rid of that whole pain-in-the-ass "warrant" requirement, too. Perhaps we could require people to incriminate themselves, maybe "encourage" them to talk with some waterboarding or a tune-up with a rubber hose.

There are more important concerns than catching crooks.

You have to understand, the writer of that article is a Michigan cop, and like he said, by state law, CPL holders (This includes VISITORS with an OUT OF STATE permit) must disclose, or face prosecution for violating that law.

I've had my Michigan CPL since 2003. During that time, I've been stopped or came into contact with POs about a half a dozen times. I've informed them on each occasion. On every occasion, they thanked me for telling them, and said, "lets just leave it where it is." In those instances where I was pulled over for some perceived traffic violation, I never got a ticket, just advised to "slow down."

As long as your state law doesn't make you disclose, then don't. But if you go to/through Michigan, or another state that recognizes your LTCF, i recommend you check the laws, to see if you need to disclose there, if stopped. It might save you a trip to the local jail.

What simple point were you making with:
"Just know that more Murderers and such are caught by traffic stops for "revenue tickets" than you might realize. Ever hear of Timothy McViegh?"

I called 911 and when the police got to my home I had my CCW in hand and hands in the air. Told them here is my CCW, I have a loaded weapon on my right hip and will gladly surrender it. LEO said for our safety please. She took it and asked if I would mind if she cleared it and I said go for it and there is one in the pipe. Very professional, no problem. They ran my CCW and serial number, gave me everything back and said go ahead and load whenever I wanted. I waited until they left.

Gunlawyer

Counselor, this is from your own post on page 2:

We don't exist for the convenience of the police. Police are not the enemy, but citizens shouldn't be treated like rabid dogs, either. I don't plan to shoot any cops, and I resent being treated like I do, especially if my "offense" is related to the income-producing road tax. (On a side note, speeding doesn't cause most accidents; driving while on a cell phone, tailgating, and beating red lights cause accidents, but they are harder to catch, so departments concentrate on catching people driving 65 in a 55 zone. I've NEVER seen the cops catch someone tailgating me or anyone else. But I see tailgating every day, all day, and it's like holding a gun to someone's head that will go off if a dog runs out in the road or a tire blows or someone 3 cars ahead slows down to change lanes. So it's not like the focus on catching speeders is for OUR benefit.)

Point made.

I don't read negative tone into it but I attempt to be apathetic to the other person's point of view. I have never had a bad experience with a cop but I typically go out of my way to show that I'm not a threat. At night I turn on the light right away and let them see my hands. I make eye contact as this officer mentioned, and I'm not abbrasive.

I came to the conclusion that I am concerned about unwarranted confiscation so I switched to carrying my CZ52 since it was only $125. I can be upfront with the officer but since it's a C&R gun which is not going to be in any illegal database, they can take it and I can go after them later. It won't bother me as much in the meantime. I will be able to approach it more rationally. (I hope) ;-)
