Don't you just love idiotic thinking such as that! Under that line of thinking, our military will lose all wars by defending against enemy attacks. Or would we win wars, by braking into enemy camps unarmed, make anoise then hide, and let them all shoot themselves, and each other?

I get a lot of flak about owning guns with a 12 yr old daughter in the house, and even more because she has her own guns, from the tree hugging hippies that I know, but that one tops the cake!

When will people understand that guns are not dangerous, people are dangerous!

If we follow that line of reasoning we should get rid of our knives too. I wouldn't want to try to eat a steak and end up cutting my fingers off.

Wouldn't THIS be an interesting study?

1. Take this person (Mister Anti-Gun) to a prison and introduce him to Mister Convicted Rapist and friends. (Just so he can see for himself that they DO exist)

2. Place Mister Anti in a locked room with a monitor viewing other locked rooms, one of which contains his wife and/or children. (who have not been told what type of experiment this is)

Note: Locked rooms in this experiment should be located at a distance equal to the nearest police department and no officers on location should be provided for "protection" during the experiment.

3. Explain to Mister Rapist that by cooperating fully in the experiment, he gains his freedom, wins $1,000,000 and absolutely no charges will be filed, regardless of what action/s he takes upon the woman/children inside the locked room he is about to enter. (it could be a lie, we're just looking to motivate him for the experiment) It should also be explained to Mister Rapist that THIS family does not believe in owning firearms for self-defense. (This explanation should be heard and viewed by Mister Anti while he waits in his locked room)

4. As Mister Anti watches (on a monitor) Mister Rapist being led down a corridor leading to the room containing his wife/children, (Key to wife/children's room is visible, hanging on a hook next to the door) give him these options:
(a) press the big button with the picture of a handgun on it.
(b) press the big button with the picture of a telephone on it.

There will be two locked boxes located in the room with wife/children with the same pictures on them. (containing the item pictured)
The box with the corresponding picture will be opened the moment the button is pressed.

5. Hand Mister Rapist the key to the room and sit back and watch.

Which button do you think Mister Anti will push as Mister Rapist inserts the key into the lock?

Another variation would be to ALLOW the wife/children to HEAR EVERYTHING above AFTER they have been locked in the room.

In this version, it would be interesting to see which button they would be BEGGING Mr Anti to push!

I don't know why I continue to be surprised by such statements. IMHO all of this stems from the welfare society, cradle-to-grave mentality that's been indoctrinated into so many people.

No one but the govt. is qualified to care for us, defend us, etc? What a bunch of crap. I'll take care of me and mine on my own, thank you.

God forbid the day he actually needs the Police to help him. IF something happened, and IF he or a family member could get to the phone, even departments with really good response times typically don't arrive on the scene while a crime is in progress. I guess he's content to see property stolen, or worse, his family hurt before the Police, who are not legally obligated to protect HIM, show up.

Note this is not meant to be disparaging against LEOs, but rather a simple fact that someone that's already there has a better chance to prevent a crime than someone that's not.

In a way, it's sad to see one like this, because they're not going to come to the realization we try to make them understand until AFTER it's too late.

Thank your co-worker very much for me. I am selling my guns TODAY!!! I had no idea that I could not handle them and might hurt myself or a loved one with them.

Now, being serious...your co-worker is an idiot and is simply spewing the usual anti-gun rhetoric. I have an anti-gun or two in my office and have the debate every now and again. There is usually no winning with these people. You can make the most valid of points and they will find a way to put an illogical twist on it. I could give any number of examples, but you all have heard them before. I do enjoy the debate though.

Although this guy is a lost cause, don't stop debating the issue with him whenever it comes up. Remember:

The point of a debate isn't to win the argument so that you can convince your opponent your position is the right one, it's to win the argument so you can convince the dozen or so listeners your position is the right one. The people NOT debating are the ones who either don't have a position on the issue or are on the fence, and need to be swayed one way or the other. Make sure they land on the side of freedom and liberty!
