Question OC in archery season etc....

So I while I was out the other day, I was thinking about the legality of OC of my 1911 during archery season and in other seasons. Anyone know what the regs are in regards to carrying a 'non-sporting' sidearm during seasons in open and/or concealed mode(obviously needing a LTCF for concealed)...?

Well with the new bill being intruduced hopefully there will be no concern. But I really don't know, I would expect to get hasseled for doing it, but would also expect a lot of support from members here if that were to happen

Since 2007 you are permitted to carry a "non-sporting" (as in in not legal to take game with during that season) handgun during hunting seasons provided you have an LTCF ~and~ the sidearm is only used for self defense.

A LTCF authorizes only "firearms" as defined by SS6102 of the UFA.

I quote the definition below. Essentially it includes handguns, short barreled rifles short barreled shotguns and some AOW's

So...say you hit a deer with an arrow and it's down, wounded and suffering. I am to understand that you still cannot pull your legally carried, non-sporting firearm to dispatch the injured deer? You would have to cut it's throat, correct?

No.

I also do not think you can legally use a knife either as it is not a legal hunting instrument.
Plus it is not an easy thing to do (cut throat) through all the hair/hide. Very dangerous idea. One kick from a deer can be incapacitating or worse.

I recommend bringing more than one arrow

"Non-sporting"??? Where does this definition come from???

You do not need to carry a semi-auto only. If you have the LTCF, you can carry a revolver while archery hunting.

Anything defined as a "firearm" is legal to carry.

Hehe...thanks! I don't bow hunt and have never been in that situation...I was just wondering.

Heh, correct. My bad for being being more clear that by "non-sporting" (not the best choice of terms) means simply that it is NOT legal to hunt with in that season. Semi-auto's any season, revolver during archery, etc.
