Default Sig Mosquito

Every year at this time, my mother-in-law buys me a gun. Actually what she does is write me a check for my birthday. She gave up on dress shirts and ties many years ago. Mrs. Plinker gave me specific instructions that I was not to spend my birthday money on tools for the business, so it has been guns or gun related accessories. This year I found a very lightly used Sig Sauer Mosquito in the case at the Handgunner. It came with two magazines, and a few other spare parts. This one also had the threaded barrel from Sig, so with the impending arrival of my SWR Spectre, I decided to buy it.

I know not everyone loves this gun, and some have had some trouble with it. With it being used, I figured I would not take a huge hit on it if it didn't work. The range is only about a mile from the gun shop, so you can guess where I was next! I had time to run 150 rounds through it. The first 100 were CCI Mini Mags, and they did fine. There was no failure to whatever, although on two occasions, I had to give it a little tap to get the slide to move forward on the first round chambering. I attributed this to the very heavy wax that was on the bullets themselves. There were some pretty huge globs on a number of them that I noticed. But other than that, it ran flawlessly. I fired most rounds at a moderate rate, but I blew through a few mags as fast as I could pull the trigger.

The second round was shooting up a box of 50 Federal standard load lead bullets with no copper wash or anything fancy. I had one failure to something, and I am not sure what happened. I think it was a light strike. Nothing happened at one point when I pulled the trigger, and when I worked the slide, I thought it was a spent casing that ejected. I discovered at the end of that clip that it was an unfired round lying on the ground. I reloaded it and it fired just fine. That was the only real issue.

I would not call 150 rounds a comprehensive test, but so far I am happy with it. I can't wait for the Spectre to arrive (waiting since March) and hear how it doesn't go bang.

There are few things quite as fun and satisfying as blowing through .22 ammo with reckless abandon. By the box. Until the slide is too hot to touch. Until your hands are exhausted. Until the range closes. Until the range officer physically assaults you, removes your weapon, and unceremoniously throws you out.

Oh, and Happy Belated Birthday!

I have over 1000 rds through my Sig Mosquito and it EATS federal 40gr bulk ammo and CCI mini mags. One day my girl ran 350 rds through it in one shooting and i purposely haven't cleaned it to see how dirty it can get before it needs a good cleaning, and with just some light oil on the slide between shoots it getting to the point where it needs clean at just over 1000 rds. But the olny issue i have are some FTL's every now and then but its seen a good gun so far. That day she ran through the box of 350 rds she only had one FTL. She also ran though another box of 350 rds and only have one FTL' also with that. OS im not complaining at all, and Its been go to us so far.

Side note...dose anyone know where i can get the longer barrel thats on the "sport" model and the front barrel cover for the longer barrel? Anyone know if they sell them separately.

Plinker, I have a skeeter also. In fact it is my only handgun at the moment. I love the thing. Check out this thread over at sigforum: http://sigforum.com/eve/forums?a=tpc...5&m=4101021231.

Pictures coming! I just discovered I do not have my picture software installed yet. This computer is only about a month old, replacing another new one that went belly up in 60 days.

So stay tuned...

I've got one too.. My pictures are somewhere in the picture thread.. I've run well over 1500 Federal Bulk through it w/ almost 0 problems... One day I went through a whole box... Starts to hiccup at 300-400 but I gotta say thats due to it inevitably getting dirty/hot...
