I've never had anyone give me hard time about drawing from the holster at Branch Valley in Perkasie.
Membership is almost maxed out though, so if you want to join, I'd join quick. The next meeting is next Tuesday night. http://www.branchvalleyfgfassoc.org/ Feel free to PM for more more info. |

The best approach is to join a range, and over time, demonstrate to the range officer that you're safe and squared away. Then, at a time when no one else is around, ask to step in front of the barrier and do your draw-and-shoot drills. They'll let you do that if: a) range officer is reasonable and not a Range Nazi, b) you've earned their trust so that they're comfortable with you, and c) there's no other people around so they don't have to explain to every guy off the street why you get to do that and they can't. IOW, it's a discrete favor you can ask, over time. But it's never "policy." |

I didn't start regularly drawing from the holster until about my second year of membership there. By then, everyone saw that I was safe and capable of making all my shots hit the target and impact the berm. |

I'll second what donald says. My range allows me and my training partner to do certain things only because of our extensive training. They're super touchy after they were shut down for a good chunk of the year following someone negligently missing the enormous backstop (ironically, a bench rest shooter).

If I could find one within an hour's drive of my place, I'd join in a heartbeat.
The local indoor facility in Glen Rock will not allow drawing from a holster unless your're a LEO. I train at least once a week and fire competitively at least (on average) two weekends a month. I draw and reholster more in a month than an average LEO trains the entire year. Not even being a certified NRA RSO makes any headway. If you can prove your competence, sign a waiver and be done with it. Needless to say, it doesn't get much of my business. I'll have to stick with the club that at least allows our group to practice and have matches in organized groups. |
