Default Re: How have you introduced someone to shooting?

I've just found out that a friend of mine who lives in Nashville owns a gun but has not shot it yet and it's been in a box under his bed for eight years now.

I asked him if he had heard about the tragedy that happened to the family in Connecticut, and he said "Yes, that was awful!"

Well he has a beautiful wife and 3 beautiful daughters, and I said him "What if someone broke into your home and tried to do the same thing to you and your family what would you do? You haven't even shot your firearm yet and you don't even know if it works. Who knows what kind of condition it's in given the fact that it's been underneath your bed for 8 years." He immediately saw my point and promised to do something about it.

He called me yesterday and told me that he and his wife were going to the gun range to try out their gun. He is going to meet a friend there who is a gun owner and an experienced gun shooter, and he will help my friend and his wife with any questions that they might have regarding all aspects of firearms/shooting. He is also going to purchase another firearm for his wife.

Me and my Friend are President and VP of a student run club and last spring we took a group of about 20 college students most of them never shooting a gun before this out for there first task from what I could tell everyone had a grate time.

The school was grate they paid for just about everything and the students only had to pay 5 bucks.

We are in the works of doing shotgun for this fall

I have introduced shooting to 2 buddies of mine. The first is a kid that I worked with. He heard myself and another coworker talking about our last trip to the range. He says to me, "You know I have never shot a gun but I'd like to try it." So one day, my trigger finger was getting itchy so I decided to go shooting. I picked up the phone and called him, and asked if he would like to come along. Well of course he would! (Who would't besides some sissy liberals?) I took him and he had a blast. So much that he has bought bullets to shoot in my gun, and we're going to schedule another trip to the range.

My other buddy has shot some, but never a handgun, and he hasn't shot in years. We've been trying to schedule a trip to the range for a while, but alas it didn't all come together until last Sunday. We spent 2 1/2 hours blasting guns until we had to stop because he had to work. (Doesn't that suck - having to go to work after a trip to the range?) Of course by going to work he got out of helping me clean the 5 guns we shot that day.

I was impressed with both of them. They were very safe, and listened to what I said. I don't know if either is planning on purchasing a gun anytime soon, but I know that they had a great time.

Hey guys, thanks for sharing and thanks for introducing someone to shooting.
It really isn't important that the people we share our passion with actually become gun owners. What's important is that they have a better understanding of firearms in general. Hard to be afraid of the unknown when you've been personally introduced.

Education is key.

I took my helper from work today. We had a great time we shot a G22 and a S&W MP9. He just got out of the navy and I learned that he never shot a gun in the navy. I thought all military guys had to learn how to shoot a firearm apparently it's only the Marines and Army that shoot in basic training. Does anybody know why this is ?
