I pretty much have my dad into guns. He wants to pick up a handgun sometime now. My girl likes em now, she was scared as all hell before but not anymore, all I had to do with her was have her hit a few pop cans in the basement with my pellet gun. Next up is the 22s. I'm getting my little nephew even more into em, I plan on making a trip out there quite often now (my bro seems to want to take him shooting more, he'll buy ammo till I can afford some). My mom is neutral now, from her old perspective of HATING guns. I got my friend into guns with a little pellet gun too, he now has a Savage 30-06 for hunting. Up next, my sister and her three boys, maybe the niece too!

Last time I just handed her the .380 and said "Careful now, that's loaded"

and left the room.

Kidding, Kidding

I am more of less still waiting to convert someone. My wife is coming along but is still afraid of "big guns". She is letting me get the SKS.

And Emptymag, just wait until you see it at the next group shoot. If you like your Yugo this will give you wet dreams.

It just hit me... You've only been married for what... less than a month? and you're already using "husbandspeak"!!!

Bring her to the group shoot and have her try someone's AR, It's like shooting a pellet gun compared to that Mosin Nagant!

Here's how I got my GF to come to the group shoot and actually shoot with me.

Babe, if something ever happens and we're in a bad situation, and I get shot gun goes out of my hand towards you. What are you gonna do? Let me die?

"I think I'd grab it and shoot back"

"I'm already on the ground, your gonna shoot my gun w/o ever having shot a gun in your life and hope to hit?"

Gotta give good visuals. I have the feeling though, once she shoots once, it's gonna become a habit for her.

I took my girlfriend shooting for the first time. I gave her a safety course first and she seemed to catch on quick. We started out with a 38 special and then she shot my g22 and mp9. I was really impressed and she had a great time. You have to remember this was a person who hated guns I think a little education and patience goes a long ways. She can't wait to go again.

People in general fear the unknown. Couple that with the garbage that the media uses to brainwash the public and the fear of firearms becomes that much worse.

Most rational people lose that fear when the operation of a firearm is properly explained to them and they realize it is simply a machine with moving parts that must be set in motion by the deliberate action of the human who is handling it. The most popular myth is the "It just went off" line of crap that we've all heard.

I'm glad to hear all these stories. No need to "push" guns onto people, but it's good to be able to explain them(guns) to the point that the uninformed can understand how they work and realize that the fear of guns is blown out of proportion.

Damn, I did say that didn't I.

I think she will like the SKS. If not, I sure will. And trust me, she won't go near the Mosin. She would look so much hotter with an AR-15.

I got my neighbor hooked, he actually bought a gun off me. Besides that, my wife and two sons.

Thought I'd drag this topic back up again as I enjoy hearing these stories.

EDUCATING the uninformed and introducing them to shooting in a positive way is very important for many reasons that I know I don't need to go into here.

I ask again, how have you introduced someone to shooting?

I got our outside sales guy here at work interested in range shooting just by talking about it all the time and by showing him some of my handguns! Now Shawn is going tonight to buy a Taurus .40 and he is also coming to the Group Shoot on the 12th! Now if I could just get him to join the forum...(He has no internet at home!)

I also got my boss interested, but he wants to get a CCW for late night towing jobs!
