I've been shooting 100 to 110 yds with a Ruger .22 for years. I have my 10y.o. daughter doing it now too. As to the question, does it make you better, yes I believe so. At shorter distances I like to "point and click" as opposed to truly aimming. I know there's a term for it but it isn't coming to mind just now. I like to know that in a real life situation when aimming correctly isn't an option due to time constraints I'll be on target.
I used to live on the edge of the Everglades and used the water to correct my aim. Used to love real long shots (500yds or more) and seeing just how accurate I could get. You starting learning elevation and windage pretty quick.

I'd be afraid to whip that out in front of a girl.

I carry a tiny gun to compensate for my huge cock.

lol that big gun = tiny member thing is completely wrong.

It is sportscar, luxury toys/house, and crotchrocket(some cruisers too) motorcycles = small size.

I was surprised how accurate my M&P9c was at 30 yards and I'm considering practicing long shots more often. It's good to know you can pull off a 50 yard shot if there's a shooting or something.

Also, do you think it helps with shorter range shots?
YEP!

I shoot a modded 92FS. It's single handed match. So after years of the match the reg Navy pistol qual course is a joke to me.

At the Usery Pass range in AZ there is a steel target at 300yds. Its about the size and shape of a diamond shaped traffic sign. I've hit it repeatedly with .22lr semi auto pistols, a .22mag revolver, a .380 HiPoint, and a 9mm Glock (after 2 or 3 tries) At one point I had everyone on the range (a dozen or so shooters) watching the target for my hits. My 6 in a row with a .22mag revolver isn't half bad IMO. So yes I shoot pistols at longer ranges than the typical 7-10 yds.

My Super Redhawk and I are good on deer to about 120yd.

I shoot my Mk I .22LR at 100yd sometimes - it drops about 2ft by that point, but accuracy is still pretty good.

There is a good thread on AR15 from a guy in TX who was shooting 200, 300 and 500 yds with a good chart for proper sighting in at those distances.
