I am looking at mounting this on a Stag 2HT.... do you think its a problem if i span onto the front guard with the mount i decide to get? The front guard is a quadrail free float type....

In all of my reading, it is not advised to mount front rings on the FF tube and rear rings on the receiver. The theory is that the tube can twist and cause you to be off. I myself have never tried it, so, i can't say for sure. I am only posting what i have read. I'd say not to do it but i don't think it would hurt to try. Most of us here are all paper punchers and will never put our rifles through the rigors of combat that might jar the mount. I myself would not feel comfortable with the optic mounted on the front rail. If you are seriously building this for a SHTF weapon, i'd look at the Laure spr-e mount if you need more eye relief than the cheap CAA mount. I put mine in the CAA mount because it is my sons fun gun and i wasn't too worried about a SHTF scenario with it.

Also, i beleive that GG&G and others make a full length rail to run the length of the reveiver and FF tube. This rail will tie them both together tightly. However, the cost of the rail makes it a silly option because you could buy the Laure mount for the same price and keep the optic on the receiver alone.

Good luck. Optics can be a pain to figure out what will work best for your needs.

I am a little south of Quakertown. You are a little North and not too far away. Maybe one weekend, we could meet at my range and you could put some shooting time in on my sons AR to see if you like the optic and mount before you make your purchase. Just a thought / offer.

Thanks for the advice.... yeah its just for putting some holes in paper nothing fancy. Im gonna give it a try and see how it goes. The mount wasn't that expensive and if it doesnt seem to work out I can always use it on a different rifle. I could definately see it being an issue for two independent rings but the one piece may not be so bad. I'll let you know how it goes. I appreciate the offer to come shoot and try it out. I actually bought it last night from Midway, but I am always up for some shooting!!! Are you going to the rain date group shoot on the 11th by any chance?

For paper punching, i think the CAA mount on the receiver will work great for you. When you are just punching paper, you have time to adjust your eye relief. In a real SHTF scenario, you probably wont have that luxury of time.

If it were a SHTF gun, you can't beat the Laure mount---but, the last i checked, they were going for $200+. I guess that aint so bad because $200 for the mount and $200 for the scope and it is still similar in price to a non magnified eotech.

I will not be at the group shoot. I went to the one earlier in the summer but could not make the Sept one. Pennsey said that only people that had signed up for the second shoot could go to the rain date shoot.
