I find it Ironic that the judge can legally have a three martini lunch, kick back and have good stogie.....then sentence this guy to prison and deny him his civil rights for life.
Ain't it grand being free?? |

I will say that whether a person is thought to be a criminal or a patriot frequently depends on one's viewpoint. It is possible to be both. The founding of our great country was accomplished by men who were thought to be criminals of the most reprehensible and ignoble kind by some, and admirable patriots whose example should be held as the standard to be followed by others. |

And then on top of that, to have illegal drugs in his apartment? Well, maybe that won't hold up, if they went to his apartment to look for more weapons, but again, that's just a technicality, and even if he can't be charged with it, the drugs were there nonetheless. Support of members who are being unjustly persecuted is one thing... encouraging this type of errant behavior is another. The point will soon be moot anyway... he's going to wind up forbidden to own firearms at all, let alone carry them. Sorry, but the boy's on his own, in my mind. |

I've seen many people who have never smoked a joint in my life that I would not want to own guns. Just because a man smokes a little reefer does not mean they are irresponsible, OR pose a danger to anyone by owning guns. I've seen discussions like this get pretty heated. I hope we can keep common sense in this discussion. Zero tolerance leave no room for common sense.

alcohol isn't illegal, it isn't made illegally, it isn't smuggled into this country from places where it is grown under armed guard. Buying illegal drugs in many cases finances terrorism and violence both at home and abroad. How many drug dealers or higher level distributors don't have guns, they probably have more than you do. The drugs in and of themselves may not be harmful beyond what they do to the individual but the financial and supply systems connected to drugs certainly harms many many people. If someone doesn't care about the law enough to not commit one felony, then why should they think twice about any other?

True, there is more to this story than just the pot.

If you make it legal, and cut the dealers out of the loop you will be far more efective than trying to bust every single dealer on the streets. That's a whole nother debate.

indeed it is a whole other debate, and you may be right, but the fact is that it is illegal and simple possession makes the purchaser a member of a system which employs violence and murder in its practice, and which feeds off of the addictions of poor and helpless people.
