secondly, where do they get off taking his weed? did they also take any pain killers or muscle relaxers prescribed by a doctor, that he could have been under the influence of? did they check his coffee pot or his for the caffeine content to be sure that he wasn't out in public on a overdose of caffeine?

third, somewhere along the line someone made mention of pot smokers getting weed from other countries and causes violence and shit... you watch too much tv. it's all lies. most of the weed folks around here smoke came from around here...you may not want to admit it, but your neighbor probably grows it. wake up...step away from the media's ploys...

if I want to smoke in the privacy of my own home, it's nobody's business but my own. I am not hurting anyone including myself. we aren't talking about crack or heroin or PCP. Nobody's out there prostituting themselves for weed. it's a plant that takes the edge off for a lil while. so you all can take your xanax or whatever your DR is giving you or go to the bar for a few after work and then drive home while i'm on the streets with my kids in the backseat, and I'll stick with what the Earth gives me.
Although I disagree with the drug laws, at this point in time, the laws are enforced. So, the marijuana would be seized as evidence.
Now, we have a pot smokin', coke snortin' President of the United States...so maybe those stupid laws and prohibitions will be changed.

Everyone has the right to judge anyone at any time for any reason. We can judge this man all day long on the internets and it don't mean a damn thing.

EVERYONE does things that aren't exactly smart sometimes. Whether they hate guns, have grandpappy's shooty in the closet, or own a thousand. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. We are human beings and even the finest human beings do regrettable things. I'm not saying we need to lift the man up on a pedestal, but we shouldn't throw him under the bus either.

It is debatable whether the controlled substance act(s) are useful or a hindrance. And especially when it comes to marijuana.

I happen to place marijuana in a class as alcohol personally. Though I don't use any drugs other than an occasional drink.

Where me must draw the line is illegal activities, as they are currently defined, and allowing firearms.

The reason is simple.

When you are conducting illegal business, no matter drug related or not, if someone cheats you, rips you off or whatever, you have no legal recourse.

Because the activity by legal definition is illegal, you can not bring suit in court.

So, justice is dealt with in a vigilante, vindictive style. This causes the punishers to go overboard as there are no checks and balances. Cheaters and snitches get killed or maimed. So do innocent people who are bystanders. It can go to the extreme of someone who resists arrest with deadly force because they cannot afford the 'third strike'.

So, whether you blame the unintended consequences of the law or the criminals themselves, the end result is that illicit activity and guns do not mix.

Under your system of classification neither do I

at least half of the elected officials have done illegal drugs at one time or another, that's just the way it is. many more of them take legal drugs all of the time even though they alter the mind and the body...nicotine alters the mind and the body that's why it's habit forming. alcohol impairs judgment and for some is habit forming. it is well known that these drugs damage the body and the mind. 2nd hand smoke is known to cause cancer. we all know the effects of alcohol. yet the gov't keeps the bars open all day and til 2am and i can get a pack of smokes 24 hours a day... how highly taxed these things are as well!! you pay twice as much for both of these drugs in maryland and look at their nice roads...lol

FYI, the amount of marijuana found at the property, as I recall was a small amount, which is a misdemeanor...here's your fine, blah blah blah...

I thought this might be appropriate here, although it is appropriate in any thread where politicians, media or other uses behavior modification techniques to influence public perception.

The 8 Monkeys

(This is reportedly based on an actual experiment conducted in the U.K.)

Put eight monkeys in a room. In the middle of the room is a ladder, leading to a bunch of bananas hanging from a hook on the ceiling.

Each time a monkey tries to climb the ladder, all the monkeys are sprayed with ice water, which makes them miserable. Soon enough, whenever a monkey attempts to climb the ladder, all of the other monkeys, not wanting to be sprayed, set upon him and beat him up. Soon, none of the eight monkeys ever attempts to climb the ladder.

One of the original monkeys is then removed, and a new monkey is put in the room. Seeing the bananas and the ladder, he wonders why none of the other monkeys are doing the obvious. But undaunted, he immediately begins to climb the ladder.

All the other monkeys fall upon him and beat him silly. He has no idea why.

However, he no longer attempts to climb the ladder.

A second original monkey is removed and replaced. The newcomer again attempts to climb the ladder, but all the other monkeys hammer the crap out of him.

This includes the previous new monkey, who, grateful that he's not on the receiving end this time, participates in the beating because all the other monkeys are doing it. However, he has no idea why he's attacking the new monkey.

One by one, all the original monkeys are replaced. Eight new monkeys are now in the room. None of them have ever been sprayed by ice water. None of them attempt to climb the ladder. All of them will enthusiastically beat up any new monkey who tries, without having any idea why.
This also applies to posts in other threads that say, "the system is fine, it is the fault of 'the people' for voting poorly that things are so fucked up in this country." Yes, it is the fault of the people for voting poorly, but have our instincts been manipulated in such a way that we will attack each other if we don't keep making the same stupid decisions?

Carnes,

Perfect example! Kudos.

You left out the ending.

Great stuff and exactly what has happened in my opinion. (Damn, got to spread it)

This is the best monkey-beating metaphorical example I've heard in a long time. There are so many straw situations where it could be played like an off-suit low pair.

I only read untill page 12 of this thread, but I feel safe in assuming that the rest is the same as all marijuana legalization threads.

Since every view point on this topic has most likely already been expressed, I will leave you with these videos. You may draw your own conclusions of how i feel about this.
