Default Wall Mart

Went to wall mart tonight. First time in about 2 months

Was very surprised to see all the gun racks empty.

THe Wal-mart here in Johstown stopped carrying firearms as of Feb. 5th. Yours probably stopped about the same time. Unfortunately, it's a growing trend.

Funny, I went to the North Versialles Wal-Mart (Rt. 30) tonight and the whole sporting goods section was moved around.

No firearms. The ammo was not at the register, but was in an upright glass case that was somewhat "out of sight".
The only things left that had anything to do with hunting was the ammo and the gun cleaning supplies/slings/eye protection...

This must have happened within the past few weeks.
NOW where the Hell am I going to hang out while my wife shops?

Ours in DuBois still carries them. Due in part because of farely decent sales in the summer to late fall months. This area is prime hunting country, and a lot of our economy is due to hunting and hunters.

Most of it is because they can't sell enough to justify the space. With all the gun shops around. And they can't get the staff that knows anything about guns at what they pay. Heck with their staff most will not pass a background check.
On top of that have you noticed how many times they have been sued for sexism? When I worked at the local Wall*Mart part-time I knew far more about guns than anyone else in the store. In fact I knew more about camping than most of them. I was kept in toys.

Men looking at guns will not want to listen to a woman was what they told me.

Funny, because at our Wal-mart here. there is a young gal who works in Sporting Goods, and she really seems to know her stuff. The guys here don't seem to have any problem getting info/advice from her.

Could be store to store. Our store manager might be inserting his own feelings. Also that was four years ago and Wall*Mart has lost one suit and is facing another right now. They could be trying to correct that.

Walmart got out in most stores because it's politically incorrect and unprofitable. I remember seeing that they opened "pilot" stores in Texas that dealt with the rich. They specifically stated there were no firearms in those stores and they shelved $200 bottles of wine. The wealthy largely do no like guns. Michael Moore also busted our balls when he filmed that "bowling for colubine" movie. Having a cripaled kid take the 9mm they took out of his hip to Walmart to return it isn't normally good publicity.

actually, they are stopping selling guns due to constant license and paperwork problems and violations.
some stores have low sales, a lot of stores have "other " issues

its not cost effective fro tehm to eat up the profit selling guns when they just shell it back out in fines ad license loss due to having clueless folks selling guns.

got this flat out from a Walmart manager who knows the internal story(and months/years of internal notices about proper gun sales rules) versus the external press releases

heres a WSJ article about it. apparently its not company wide
