Default Buying a rifle online - FFL question

Hey guys,

I found a rifle that I would like to purchase online, but the site requires that all purchases are made by an FFL.

Can I just go to a local shop, point them to the site and have them order it? How can it be done without getting raped on markup?

Are there any places/people around Mont. Co. that will order and do the transfer for a flat fee, or anything of the like?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but help is appreciated!!

Read the instructions from the site selling the rifle. They will usually have a form or some way of ordering the rifle, however before they ship the rifle, your FFL will have to send a signed copy of their FFL to them.

some places only deal with FFL holders and give them a discount to mark the gun up. What site is it?

I ordered my saiga from gunsatcost and they had a list of the FFL holders in my area to have the gun shipped to. I called the dealer and let them know what I had coming and gave them my info.

If they dont have the FFL already on file you can have your dealer or you can fax one to them.

I ordered from Classic Arms a few weeks ago.

I called Classic, got their fax number, then called my local gun shop and had them fax a copy of the FFL to Classic. I waited about a 1/2 hour, then called Classic to see if they had received the fax. They had, and I ordered. The guys at classic will not take your order without the FFL copy in their hands.

Classic rules. I ordered on Monday, and the rifle arrived at the gun shop on Wed. Got myself a nice rifle also. I've heard it's hard to get through on the phone sometimes, but this is because they are a small business. Don't let it deter you from ordering from them, they are good people.

When I got my AK from atlantic it went like this:

I called a FFL shop asked for a copy of their FFL. They gave me one and I faxed it to atlantic. I paid atlantic online and they shipped it to the FFL holder. I then had to pay the FFL holder a transfer fee and the rifle was mine. No markup by the FFL holder for the rifle.

Question Re: Buying a rifle online - FFL question

When did the requirement for background checks come into being for long gun purchases?
The second last long gun I purchased was a .22 for my son about nine years ago. I do not remember filling out any paperwork, paid cash and walked out with a receipt as I recall. (But then again, I am in the advanced stages of CRS disease.)
