Smile Mystery Beretta Mags

I purchased two mags at a gunshow for my 96D. They ARE new and are marked Beretta .40 Cal, but do not fit very well. I was told by Beretta that they were probably the early type with a thinner plastic floorplate causing them to lock into place when inserted after just minor sliding till the "click". I was happy, thinking i could use them for the range, or swap out springs when needed, but I was surprised when I noticed that they cannot feed any rounds due to their having less distance from the lips down to the locking notch/slit on the side/front.

Does anyone have any ideas what model they might actually be for? I guess I need to trade them for an 96 type, but I'm still curious.

Thanks for the help!

that would be my guess the cougar mags in 40 held like 9 or 10 rounds 11 if you were lucky and got the police and law enforcement only "hi-cap" mag

Thanks all-

No pix yet, but the mags are marked "PB CAL 40 S W- MADE IN ITALY". They are both 4 3/4 inches high when standing on the base and have windows on the back that let you visually see 4, 7 and 10 rounds. Perhaps they are for the old Cougar 8000's prior to Stoeger coming out with the same Cat. Now if only I owned an 8000!! I've been jonesing for one for a while!

There should be no diff (other than the finish) between the Stoeger and Beretta Cougars, they are made on the exact same tools, Beretta shipped them to Turkey and makes them under the Stoeger name.
