First of all, what plate are you talking about? Secondly, tape has no place on a firearm ever! Why (removed by moderator) rig something when you can and should do it right the first time? You never want to half ass or jerry rig a firearm, not a good idea.

i dont know the name its the wood grip under the barrel. It has nothing to do with the firing of the gun... Its just there.

It sounds like you're talking about the fore grip (like on an over under shotgun). Take it to a gunsmith, the fix shouldn't cost much and it will be better looking.

one option is gaffers tape. musicians use it instead of duct tape to tape over wires on the ground/floor because its made of cloth instead of whatever normal tape is made of and it doesnt leave any glue residue. just a thought, but your best bet would prolly be taking it to a gunsmith, but i thought id put this out there

Use plastic electricians tape, anything else will soak up water. You could put a small piece of paper soaked in oil or bipolar rust inhibitor on the metal, sort of like a Band-Aid. Don’t use much oil, the tape won’t stick to it. The tape will stick to itself so use two wraps. Sometimes you do what is required to get by, just so it’s safe.

Take it from an armorer- tape + gun = bad mojo. Get thee to a gunsmith and have it taken care of properly.

I don't think that tape really has a place on a rifle either, but if you can't do anything else, then I guess you can't do anything else. If you're gonna leave tape on long term, you need to realize something, tape has acid in it. They make tape for pictures that is "acid free" so that it does not ruin and eat away at photos. If you were gonna leave some tape on for any kind of semi extended period of time, I would at least make sure that it's acid free tape. I think anything else over time will pit the finish or the bluing, and just be a rust magnet. I agree with others, it probably wouldn't be an expensive fix at the smith, but if you can't do it, you can't. Have you looked at how it was originally attached so that it didn't come off, and how you might could fix it?
