Default Best Magazines for AK47?

I have a Yugo underfold 7.62x39, and I want to get some more 30rd mags.
Right now all I have is one 30rd steel mag that came with it, and of course, that is just not enough.

What are the best suitable and functioning mags I can get for it?

My M70AB2 likes all the old commie steel mags. If you can find the Yugo mags they are great as the follower holds the bolt back when empty. I also like the Hungarian 20 rd Mags. East german also works great. AK's arent to picky, go to a gunshow and you can pick out some clean ones.

I plan to go to the Valley Forge Show in Sept., and thats were I would probably get the best deals for them. I just wanted to know what to look for. I do like the Yugo steel mag that mine came with, and I like how they hold the bolt back when empty too.

Thanks,

I will only buy the Yugo mags, there is nothing more aggravating than pulling the trigger to only hear "click" because the mag didn't stay open after the last round was fired.

They are tough to find sometimes but they are out there

Thanks for the link Comrade,

Just ordered three...couldn't pass them up.
I will most likely buy some more at the gun show anyway, keep'm stocked.
Ammo is next. I might try that Golden Tiger you mentioned.

Great ammo, I like it SO MUCH better than Wolf. I've been having a hard time finding it at a decent price lately, I was getting it at $200 a case at shows but the last few shows no one had more than a box or two. There are people on gunbrokers selling it at $190 + $28 shipping right now and when I asked locally they told me it was now up to $250 a case so if I can't find it at the show this weekend I'm going to have it shipped in.

But trust me, you will like the Tiger ammo.

Regarding the AK mags, my preference is with Bulgarian or Hungarian manufacture. The Bulgarian mags are phosphated and then coated with a rough-textured black paint, and the Hungarian mags have a heavy coating of phosphate only that holds oil by the bucket. Bulgy and Hungy mags have been solid, reliable performers for me and they have yet to develop corrosion.

Neither of them have hold-open followers, but IMO the hold-open follower is of limited value. It is certainly convenient to let the shooter know when the mag is empty, but the bolt carrier slams shut when you remove the empty mag. I was trained over 35 years ago to count rounds fired and it works for me. Besides, when you've got a couple thousand rounds through an AK you learn to recognize the subtle sound/feel of the bolt and carrier closing on an empty chamber. JMO.

Most of the foreign mags work without any problems. Stay away from USA/National mags. I second the golden tiger...good stuff.
