Re: York Fair Grandstand Carry Question
Part of the fairgrounds are in York City, some in West Manchester Township and I think a little piece is West York but during the fair, you could see officers from almost any York County department including Sheriff's and Parole Officers. Unless they made a change since last year and hired a whole department that works two weeks a year, it's staffed by off-duty officers and York City/W.Man officers.
Regardless, the grounds are private property and you can be asked to leave if they find your CC gun.

Re: York Fair Grandstand Carry Question
The York Fair Police are all Act 120 certified officers and are gathered from active officers from other departments for the 2 weeks of the fair. They have their own ORI issued to the department by the state and are recognized by MPOETC. If you were to recieve a citation or get arrested at the Fair, the paperwork would all state 'York Fair Police'. None of the Fairgrounds is in York City. Majority of it is in West Manchester Twp and a small portion of it is in West York Boro. I used to work the fair.
All of the Fair Police are officers from other municipalities, but when they are working for the fair...they are 'York Fair Police'. You may also see Sheriff Deputies walking the fair and working in uniform, but they are not members of the Police Department. It is all semantics, I know....but again...my only reason for bringing it up was that the officers you encounter at the fair MAY have a better grasp of the law than someone who is not a sworn officer. Again, I meant no offense to those non-sworn security officers.
Like JP stated, the Fairgrounds is private property and you can be asked to leave.Last edited by JohnUSCG; August 28th, 2008 at 08:55 AM.

Re: York Fair Grandstand Carry Question
This is 100% correct to the best of my understanding. The officers on duty at the fair wearing the fair's dept uniform are oficers from other agencies around the county. The dept is formed and the disbabnded after the fair closes, til next year. I think PaPatriot has some info here, if I recall. The fair is private property, but not owned by York County itself. So yes they can ask you to leave, but you have broken no law by carrying on the premises.

Re: York Fair Grandstand Carry Question
I asked an officer 2 years ago at the grandstand entrance about CC, which I was doing. He stated that it was not allowed in the grandstand but OK in the fairgrounds. He said I could leave it in my car for the concert, which I did.
He did however hint at the fact that no one was being searched...

Re: York Fair Grandstand Carry Question
Maybe because it is a 'temporary' department that is only in existance for a couple of weeks. Maybe because they have not been 'activated' until next week. Maybe you can stop one of the officers during the fair and ask them what their ORI is if you would like to know it.

Re: York Fair Grandstand Carry Question
I'll be at the concert on the 13th as well but I'll have the entire family and I'm on the track.
