Default 11-Year-Old Boy Among 5 Arrested in Dramatic Gun Shop Heist

11-Year-Old Boy Among 5 Arrested in Dramatic Gun Shop Heist

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

FC1
An 11-year-old boy whose mother thought he was asleep in bed was arrested for allegedly breaking into a gun shop with a boulder and stealing 14 semiautomatic weapons and 250 rounds of ammunition.

The boy, who wasn't named, and four teenagers attempted to pull off the dramatic heist of the Suburban Armory in the Philadelphia suburb of Collingdale, according to Collingdale Police Chief Robert Adams.

Among the others in the posse: a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old boy, who also weren't identified; 18-year-old Khalik Keyser of Chester, Pa., and 19-year-old Leroy Taylor of Philadelphia.

They traveled on public transportation to the gun store, gaining entry at about 11:45 p.m. Monday by disabling the alarm system and hurling a boulder through a window, police said.

The five filled allegedly stole 14 semiautomatic weapons, about 250 rounds of ammunition and the shop owner's loaded .38-caliber handgun that they stuffed into school backpacks.

But their plan didn't include a getaway car, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Two of the suspects were caught at a nearby pizzeria and another two at a bus stop. The 11-year-old was nabbed on a bus that got stuck in traffic.

No one was hurt in the attempted burglary, and all five are still in custody, Adams told FOXNews.com. Keyser is behind bars on $200,000 cash bail and Taylor is in jail on 10 percent of $200,000 bail. The two have been charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft and other offenses.

Keyser has a criminal history and is on probation after pleading guilty in 2005 to attempted murder and weapons charges in Philadelphia, according to the Daily News.

The 11-year-old and the other two teens will likely not be charged as adults, according to Adams.

"All three juveniles will probably stay in juvenile court," Adams said. "There was no violence committed, and no one was hurt. It was an empty building."

Just another example IMO of parents NOT teaching their kids wrong from right, plain and simple. Until we get back to parents actually being parents and not pawning their kids off on the school system, the TV the better off we will be.

Attempted murder and weapons charges and he's on the streets? No violence was committed? So, it was a gun shop. What do you think they intended to do with those stolen guns? Cripes, our justice/legal system is more than half the problem for our crimes issues.

Exactly....these kids that are just getting sent to the juvenile system are not learning anything other than how to do it better next time.

Regardless of age, they knew the consequences of their actions. And they knew what they were doing was wrong. Those are adult thoughts. They should be charged as such.

That's only part of the problem. The black inner-city culture is an abomination as a whole. Yea, whites, hispanics, asians, etc. all commit crimes and there are plenty of scumbags on the loose, but let's face it, the culture of fatherless children, poor school attendance, poor choices for role models, poor money management, etc. needs to end. And yet they continue to vote Democrat as a block. There is a huge cultural problem and something needs to change. I feel sorry for inner-city black kids these days. They are almost doomed from conception.

And that gun shop owner obviously needs a better alarm system.

I guess it depends on what guns they stole but 14 guns and no transportation home?

They definitely were skipping out on school.

Most alarm systems are easy to break, you just have to have prior knowledge...installing a few helps

Do tell. I thought battery back-ups prevented one from disabling a system by simply cutting some wires. I would guess that a decent alarm also has a way of "calling for help" even if the phone lines are cut.

Some will dispatch a call to police if the phone lines are physically disabled, but we don't know if that was what brought the cops or not.

I really can't believe the statement about no violence and no harm. As posted before the one schmuck was on probation for attempted murder. He had help stealing guns. What did anyone of them think the guns were for? Playing cops and robbers on the roof? FFS what is wrong with this world. I wonder when Suburban Armory will call me back. I want to ask about what ARs they have in stock.
