Yeah I was at the Ephrata Walmart last night and they have cleaned out their rifles. I spoke with the guy behind the counter and he told me that the home office said it was for lack of sales. He also told me that the manager tried to fight it and compiled all the info about rifle sales, but it didn't work. They will still sell ammo, but no rifles.

The guy referred me to the Parkesburg Walmart in Chester Co. if I wanted a rifle. The salesman said he thought it was political, but who knows. I know there a lot of hunters in Lancaster Co. so, WTF?

It probably is political, but at a higher level management level than local or regional mgmt. Which likely means they don't care about the $$$ they're making, they just want to play CYA.

Arrow Re: Walmart getting out of the gun business

I spoke to the assistant dept. manager at a local Walmart yesterday and he told me that they are getting out of the firearms business in 80% of stores statewide. From what he told me the major reason is that sales have been dragging in the vast majority of these stores and he had not heard of their having received any political pressure. He did say that all of the store will continue to sell ammunition because that is a continuous best seller and that the firearms sales are the issue. This was in the Pottstown Walmart and he said that he hoped that they kept selling firearms because they are moving a good bit of inventory.

In around Harrisburg...

The Walmart just East of Hbg. on 322 no longer sells guns or ammo.

The Walmart just West of Hbg. on Route 11 still sells guns and ammo but for some reason the guns are now kept in the back out of sight.

Wal Mart in the evil empire of Dickson City still sells guns. They just redid their sporting goods section with a huge, new rifle/shotgun case. Although, it still had the same idiot working there that tried to sell me 44 magnums for my 44 Special Bulldog, becuase they'd only be a little louder. You can't polish a turd.

Too much paperwork and too much time per purchase. Does anyone believe this? I realize that there are at least two forms required for purchases/transfers, but they also stated that they need to perform an instant check for each sale and that the total process took an hour or more per sale. I thought that the instant check was only required for handguns and not rifles/shotguns (but I may be wrong as it has been years since I bought either at retail).

They still carry ammo, although, the handgun ammo is hidden beneath the counter while you can see the rifle, shotgun, and .22 ammo in the case. What kind of sense does this make?

Oh, to make this even more interesting, while many Walmart stores are also dropping rifle and shotgun sales, there are a few that will continue to do so. I guess that these stores just do too much volume to cut the business, but if this is true, then don't they have the same paperwork and time commitment? These guys just don't make any sense to me.
No offense but they have been saying this for like 5 years now. lol

The one in Mechanicsburg pulled their guns out of the display cases and kept them in the "back"...but about 3 weeks later they are in the cases again. Weird!!

It is all about the money, the guns make money. They are not going any where, chances are if your Walmart still has rifles and shot guns currently, then it probably will have them for a long time to come.

they only sell B-B guns here in Delaware County, so it's no loss to us.
