That would depend on the ISP. Comcast gives no access to PHP or MySQL so it would be useless for anyone with Comcast, and most ISPs I've ever checked out are the same way. Commercial accounts have those options, but at $100/month and up for the speed I currently have for $45/month it wouldn't be worth the investment to get a commercial account.

If he decides to make it available for download and cant find an embedded http server that includes the necessary functionality for php/mysql, I have an XP Home system here thats an out of the box install and would gladly download and install Xampp on it and document the process complete with screenshots and put up a "how to" for anyone else that wants to run it on their home system. I've installed it before so I know from experience its just like installing anything else, "click click click, select options, click click wait."

As for the version ... as others have said ... if I release the source code it should be able to run on Windows/Mac/Linux/BSD/Solaris ... and more. If not, it's web based and will run on anything that has a browser be it a computer or smartphone.

I was going to encrypted every field ... too many cycles wasted. But I definitely understand that certain things do need it. I didn't think of some of the sales/purchase info ... but some of that should get encrypted.

This tread definitely has my mind going on a number of different ideas. I appreciate everyone's input so far.

You'll keep getting my input, something that give a gun owning geek a chance to put the two together is definitely gonna stay on my radar lol.

There are a lot of people here with much more experience than I have so I thought I'd ask for help. BTW ... I do not plan on making this a commercial product. Actually, I was thinking about making it free for everyone to use if I can get "satisfied" with it.
Got any updates for us on this?

Unfortunately (for the software), I have been tied up with work and my side business. So I had to slack a little. I plan on getting most if not all of it done by the end of the month, because I will have to start studying for the second part of my certification by the end of the month. (it's not fun, well most of it isn't).

I can't imagine why anyone would be interested in listing any valuables, including guns on web, even if were password protected.

The "web" is not ready for that. It's not secure enough. That's why there are problems with identity theft. Hear much about identity theft news before the web was available?

If a web site were available to list valuables, there will be criminals trying to hack into the system to find where the best loot is!

I really don't buy that argument. Criminals have been stilling people's credit cards since they became available, I don't think the internet really effect that. Well, criminals have a better communication system now but that doesn't change the fact that it was happening before. Yeah, you hear about the "big" cases like the TJ Max but that wasn't because of people posting info on the 'Net. Someone hacked in their corporate network. Even if they weren't connected to the 'Net, some could have just as easily socially hacked in to the building and grabbed the info. I believe that there was a report (I will have to try and find it) that showed that most ID theft was from people dumpster diving and getting info from receipts and statements, than from hacking.

As far as the system that I'm writing ... I don't even have a place to put your address and your real name is optional. If someone was to hack into the system than try to figure out who is Bob8799 and where he/she lives, good luck. There are a lot of easier ways to make money.

I attached an excel spreadsheet on an older post answering this same question, it was very close to acquisition/disposition format. The other plus to excel is the end-user can make modifications for their needs, while retaining full data processing & sorting functionality.

No worries on this, just wanted an update. Hope you pass the certification.
