Mom's Against Guns Getting Free Ad Space

The FOX29 morning show Good Day Philadelphia did a repetitive story about this a few mornings ago. They interviewed the group. In fact, they "premiered" the billboard on their show. The anchor went so far as actually wishing the group "good luck" in their campaign. Not surprising since the same anchor, in regards to another story on a different day, said something to the effect of "what can we do about the city's gun problem? when are we going to say enough is enough?".

They always give local Democrats a chance to come in and speak on the show, seem to give Obama and definitely Nutter a disproportionate amount of good press, have the anti-gun police commissioner on all the time, and sensationalize gun-related stories.

Because I drive on 422 in the morning, I need to check out the traffic. The easiest way to do this is to watch this show and/or listen to KYW1060, which both have seemed to be anti-gun in their slant.

I dare say that, while this would seem to be a big enough story to warrant attention on this show (especially considering the coverage they gave it), they would never air time.

The funny thing is that, in relation to a story about Larry Mendte and the fact that his wife is an achor for FOX, they made a point of mentioning how they are "fair, balanced, and unbiased". What a load of crap.

Maybe it's time for us to hammer FOX29 into covering this story.

Not yet. There's not really a story here unless the billboards come down. MAG is funded by a very wealthy woman named Lynne Honickman who probably has the money to pay for them outright if need be. I would imagine she'd probably do that rather than risk a media catastrophe by having the billboards come down.

Also, at this point, probably best not to call Clear Channel to just complain, but if you have a business, or represent business interests, it may be wise to call Clear Channel and tell them you feel uneasy about doing business with them because of their support for a gun control group. Clear Channel has been very up front in all this. I don't think they really intended to insert themselves into the gun control debate, but because MAG sells itself as a group fighting illegal guns, they didn't think they were wading into controversial territory.

We have not yet heard back from Clear Channel about their proposed resolution to their situation. The woman who runs MAG is actually pretty rich, so even if they pull the donation, she can afford to buy the board outright if she wants to save face in all this. The last we heard from Clear Channel they were talking with their lawyers.

Interstate Outdoors refuses to comment. But Clear Channel has the most billboards donated.
