I have never heard of that before. How is it more likely to absorb moisture in the holster, any more than it does anywhere else? Just curious.

When I was too lazy to pull heads off "bad" reloads, I used to let rounds sit underwater for about a month in an old milk jug.......they still fired.

I worry more about chambering rounds several times and getting high pressure from setback.

I really don't know how long I let ammo sit in my carry pistol. To me this is a non-issue. My guess would be the ammo in my always pistol (BUG Seecamp), the one that resides in my right front pocket has had the same ammo for over two years. My main carry firearms the same two years or long.

My house protection firearms---We bought the house in '85 so the ammo has been in those firearms since '85 and I have no worry about the ammo going bang when I squeeze the bang switch.

My father's four magazines for his Union Switch M1911 were loaded in 1946 or 1947. When I inherted the pistol in 1993, I "like an idiot" in '93 decided to fire some of this ammunition to check the magazine springs and see if the ammo would cycle the pistol. I fired the one magazine in the pistol and 1911 functioned flawlessly with that magazine and ammo. I'll fire off the second magazine in 2013 if I am still around to make a second check.

Ok, I carry Hornady tap ammo in my Glock (self defense gun 40 S&W). I neaver worry about how long it sits there becouse, I buy a box when ever I go to the gun shop and, Every time I go to the range I fire off that mag and then reload. I quess I am silly..... I beleave you should practice with what you carry. I am not saying that is all I shoot out of my glock bucouse that would be a lie I always take 100 or so cheap rounds to play with but, the tap ammo is fired slow and for accuracy. Just my 2 cents...........Joe

I don't worry about how long the ammo sits in the magazine. IMO, that's pretty much a non-issue.

I have to second what Lycan said, I worry more about chambering the rounds multiple times than anything else.

I'm curious about this. I cycle a round just to test the weapon every couple of weeks at least...practice pulling from pocket, racking the slide and targeting. You can see the extractor scratches, but not much more. Much of the high end defensive ammo is nice brass or nickel-plated. So after a month or two of carry, I just fire off the mag before the normal ball ammo at practice, and then swap out a new mag for carry over the next period. I'd be interested in what everybody else does. I've read an engineer's analysis once that said a spring under pressure wears out no sooner than a spring under less pressure. But how many times would a round have to be chambered to start causing setback?

If brass can absorb moisture, we're going to have to rethink this entire physics thing.
