I used to use one for my PDA at work but after having it in the ear day in and day out it starts to hurt. At least it does for me. So now I talk into the brick.

I use it at work for wireless commissioning. We have bluetooth receivers for the laptops and a bluetooth com port that we can plug into our control panels. That way I can sit at an air handler with my laptop while the control panels on the other side of the mechanical room.

My palm phone is an akward touch screen - random number dialing, but gloriously handy pofs. BT is great for when I'm under a car - so that my phone doesn't have to be. See also "broken". Unfortunately I break alot of BT head sets instead so I'm currently stuck with simple touch locking programs to keep the evil -random number 12 hour phone call - cell phone bill away. Modern inconvinience at its finest...

I use a simple over the ear mono headset for hands free cell phone use in the car, but I talk on a cell so infrequently that I accidentally terminate a lot of calls before the conversation is over. Usually it's because I attempt to use some advanced power user tool like adjusting the volume, answer call waiting or look to see why my kids are texting me. I just blame it on Verizon if the person calls back, everyone seems willing to believe that.
Back in the old days when the headset was tethered to the phone I didn't like the cord always getting snagged on things. Now I like being cordless, but sometimes I have a brain fart and start walking away from my car in the middle of a conversation and forget to bring the phone with me. 99% of my life I'm late getting where ever I'm going and I don't like talking on the phone much anyway, so I won't go back for the phone. When the connection is lost, the conversation is over. Again, I blame Verizon, and no further questions are asked. As far as other gadgets go I have them, but haven't had much luck with using them. I'm sure it's just pilot error due to inexperience and lack of time to figure it all out, but I seem to have to run different applications for each device to get them to connection to each other and to my PCs, and the communications protocol doesn't always seem to be compatible between them. e.g. In order to use my Targus BT USB device on my ancient laptop (2 years old) that doesn't have onboard BT and wireless, I need the Targus drivers and control panel running, but when I want to connect my Motorola phone to transfer music and pix, I have to use Mot software which forces me to shut down other BT apps before starting. Then I turn on my PalmPilot and it assumes control, fires up it's own control app and my all PCs quit talking, as well as the phone. When I try to synch my contacts and appointments, my phone ends up with duplicates, my PalmPilot ends up with information in the wrong fields and Outlook puts everything in a default address book so I have to manually seperate personal and business contacts each and every time I synch so I don't accidentally invite my neighbors to a design review, or send Gun Babe pictures to my boss. To make it even more confusing, if I'm using my BT headset on my cell and turn on my GPS, the GPS takes over if someone calls. I get a beep in my ear for the incoming call, but before I can answer the GPS does it for me and I have to navigate an endless array of menus on either my phone or the GPS to disconnect one of them so I can talk using the other. In the mean time, I hear the caller is saying "hello? hello?, are you there?" on the GPS. Then they hang up and try again, sending me through the disconnect process all over again. Every now and then when I'm not going in a million directions at once I attempt to get all the devices to play nice together, but so far no success. It doesn't mean it can't be done, but I run out of time and patience so I give up. |

Bluetooth controllers on my PS3! Much better than infrared wireless!

My daughters new car (Nissan Versa) is bluetooth, she interfaces her IPhone too it and hears calls through the speakers and just talks (the car has a built in mic). Has a button on the steering wheel to answer and hang up. In fact she doesn't even have to have her key in the ignition to start the car, as long as the key is within the passenger compartment she just presses a button to start it.

(I also have a regular bluetooth earpiece for just talking on the phone but I'd rather listen to music then talk on the phone most of the time....)
