What does "bump" mean?

OK, maybe I'm stupid and/or dense but I can't figure out what "bump" or "bump to top" etc. means in the classified section. I've bump-fired and played bump and run defense in football but this one eludes me.

when your ad has sunk down, sometimes off the first page where people mostly look you post so that it goes back up to the top. If you didnt "bump" an add it may never get bought as it would just drift farther and farther away from the first page, and the first spot which can be seen on the main page.

there might be a plugin for vbulletin so people hit a 'bump' button to bring it to the top rather than typing bump.
