Question ID for buying a handgun, and home address question.

Hello!

I was planning on running out after work today to purchase a new handgun, however, I was told I would not be able to, here’s why.

My Drivers License has my old address on it. I went and changed my address when I moved (over a year ago now) and if I go to the Penn dot website it has my current address listed. I never received a card or anything telling me to get a new ID printed.

I was told by someone where I work who deals with guns that the address on my ID dose not match my actual address, even though my correct address is on file that I will not pass the pics check, and that I could also be fined if a cop were to pull me over for anything.

This confuses me because I purchased a handgun and got my ltcf in march with no problems (my old address was on my ID at this time)

Id really like to know if I'm going to have trouble, because it's a 2 hour round trip to the gun shop I’m going to and id hate it to be a wasted trip.

I can't stop in the DL center because they close at 4:30 and I work till 5.

Any quick input would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

You were supposed to receive a change-of-address card in the mail. Normally you present that with your ID.

I don't know what they read back on PICS these days, but I think the FFL is supposed to match the addresses, most likely between a form and a license. I'm not sure what statute says about this requirement; I'll have to check later.

You should be able to get a new card issued through the PENNDOT DMV website.
I do all my stuff (address changes, registration renewals, etc) on their website.

Once you have it you are good to go...

I tried this, (i called them as well) and you can only get new address change cards on the web, to get replacements you have to have them mailed to you... But since i never got one in the first place... (see below)

When i called they checked and said for some reason they couldn't explain, my address change card was never mailed out and that i need to stop into a DMV and get my ID re-printed, as they could not issue another address change card....

Im an unhappy person right now... =(

The Photo License Center closes at 6 on Thursdays.

PennDOT Photo & Exam Center
250 Oak Spring Road
Oak Spring Center
Washington, PA 15301

Thurs 8:30am - 6:00pm

The Driver's License Center portion of this office closes at 4:15 but since you already have a driver's license you should only need to go there and change your address and get a new photo card.

Some insurance companies, notary publics, lawyers and other companies do license services too. Check your Yellow Pages for auto-insurance places that advertise "tag renewals" or "license services".

"Online License Services" are quite popular in BFE places of PA where state license offices are only open 2 days a week, rotating between 3 counties like Clearfield, Jefferson(Punxy) and Clarion.

Why not use an ID other than your DL? You did say you have your LTCF right? Passport works too as far as I know.

Someone will be along to correct me if I'm wrong.
