Default I have to ask.....

I am surprised at the amount of shooters and gun owners who are not members of the NRA. So, if you answered no below, why?

I was years ago but quit after the endorsed Bush the Elder, which I saw as a sellout. I have been meaning to join now that the political winds are shifting. What bothers me is the feeling that they seem to give Republicans a pass, and they support things like the War on Drugs that are just as destructive to the Constitution (mostly 4th and 5th) as anything else.

No

I don't see them as sellouts, as they do rate highly some Dems like Casey as high as their counterparts. I don't like either party anyways.

The NRA isn't tough enough. They should be fighting the NFA, FOPA, etc. There are other groups that fight for more firearms rights, unfortunately they aren't mainstream.

I don't feel that as an organization they support my political views. Yes they are pro-gun, kind of. but beyond that they are way to conservative of a group for me to feel comfortable joining.
That is not to say I will not change my mind at some point in the future.

I currently am a member but in recent months have begun to wonder if I will re-up my membership this year.

The reason I say that is because I get anywhere from 10-20 mailers a month asking me to join the NRA after I am already a member. My old man gets around the same amount so I know I am not alone on this. It makes me wonder how much of the dues and fees they collect are out right wasted on sending mailers out to people who are already members.

I will admit I am actively looking for an organization that will defend my guns rights in Washington without trying to sell me insurance or wasting my dues on sending mailers to people who are already members.

Just my $.02

GOA or JPFO from what I have read fight alot more gun rights. NRA is much bigger and more powerful but only goes so far and won't press some of the most important issues.

I just went to the GOA site and they had this quote on it....I might join just because of that....

Quote:
"The only no-compromise gun lobby in Washington."
-Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX)
JPFO is also supposed to be really good, but I'm not jewish, so I don't really think I can join them.

Im a member too, but Im debating on wether to renew my membership for next year. I will most likely do it, just because of a few great things they've done in the past.

I with they'd cut down on the junk mail they swamp their members with, and use that money for something more usefull. These people are worse than the Church when it comes to asking for extra money!

For 35 bucks and a magazine it doesnt pay not to join. Who is going to lobby for you. Even if they are not 100% wich they are not. they Are in wshington lobbying for us. Every gunowner should be a member. If you think they dont go far enough join GOA, JPFOP as well. Who says you can only join one. Think of how much a new gun costs. That you happily spend on but 35 bucks you can debate. This is why we will loose. no unity. better unite because it is just going to get worse.

By the way has anyone seen the committe chairmens names. Or who is running for president in 2008. Nothing is perfect. If you wait for the perfect organization you will be waiting a long time. Join today!!!! Tomorrow might be to late. and thats is the reality of things.

What Magazine? I am a woman and they sent me a very clear message. "Shooting is for men only". We don't want women on the range or in our group.

They did this by canceling the Woman's Outlook magazine. I certainly will not be part of a group that does not want me around. I will not be re-upping my membership. I keep sending back the membership forms with the message that they should not have a problem finding a place to shove them.

I'm currently paid up through the end of next year, but am still PO'd at them for cancelling Woman's Outlook. It was the ONLY one of their magazines that featured articles on women shooters/hunters as well as the only one that did NOT have at least one OR MORE full-page ads for "male enhancement" products. BLECH! Give me a break already!
