I would join the ACLU and the NRA. But since they both cancel each other out I just take the $$$$ and buy more ammo.

Would expect the NRA to put out lots of youtube type videos on guns and the law etc.

some things in there I can see as informative against abuse of power, but most of that I see in the video is more condoning illegal activities, and giving "how-to's" on doing illegal activies and how to avoid prosecution, as well as making (all) police out to look like the enemy.

I most certainly wouldn't want some kids all high on pot driving around my neighborhood either, putting other peoples lives at risk with their vehicle.

I somewhat agree with the last poster. What would the ACLU's tune be if your "PERSONAL ITEMS" as the video put it, were stolen hand guns, kiddy porn videos, or bloody rope and a pair of underwear from a woman you had raped then strangled to death?

I think the clear point of the video isn't about getting away with pot, it is about keeping LEO from fishing. Rather of not you did or do anything wrong isn't the point. LEOs fish too much, I've been searched more than a few times when I was younger, I was always a clean cut kid. Of course I never have anything illegal anyway so I would always let them search the car, I know I wouldn't let them do it now. They just seem to want to go too far now.... I might add that I got out of more tickets than anyone would believe by just being polite and nice and friendly. The less I feared the police the more they talked to me and the more likely they laugh and tell me to have a nice day, without issuing a ticket! I haven't been asked for a search since I was 19. I think they just know I'm a good guy once they talk to me.

I agree with ar15jules, although the film is informative about how not to let the police violate your rights, they place the obvious emphasis on illegal activity by the scenarios they use, and make it look like the police are your enemy. People shouldn't have the mindset about the police that its "us vs. them." The cops in the video are "out to get you," which in 99% of the cases isn't true. The end of the film states "Now, go exercise your rights." From that the viewer can interpreted as "Go do illegal stuff! Hell do it in front of the cops, and get away with it!"

Let me say for the record that I do not condone illegal search and seizure of any citizen. I do not agree with the video condoning citizens to keep their "personal items" hidden in a vehicle compartment that is out of "plain view" of an officer. That statement in itself condones illegal activity. My point in the above post, was to emphasize the point that while the ACLU may feel that smoking some pot at a concert or at a house party is hardly the same as killing or raping someone, it is still currently illegal. Serving alcohol to a minor is also illegal as in the last scenario. Go to an outdoor concert and see how many people smoking marijuana are arrested for doing it. The answer is not many. Read your local police blotter, and see how many people are taken in on DUI charges, and are also found to be in possession of a controlled substance. What happens to the possession charges. Nine times out of ten they are dumped. Any LEO who puffs his chest at taking an ounce of pot off of some kids headed to a concert needs his head examined. The courts realize this as well and act accordingly. The court of common pleas is already jammed with cases, that half of those charges do nothing but tie up the system. With that in mind, everyone SHOULD be aware of their rights, and politely exercise them. While the ACLU probably had good intentions in promoting and posting the video, because again, I am a citizen too, and do not wish to have my rights violated, it came off to me as a message that said, if you want to do these illegal activities, this is what you need to do as to not get caught. If I posted a video instucting people on how to buy, sell, trade kiddy porn, because the police will certainly want to investigate me, I think the board would be singing a different tune. Again, you can't compare child pornography to smoking a joint at a concert, at least I can't, but in the mind of those folks who enjoy such filth, there may be no difference. The video would have set much better with me, if someone who identified themselves as an experienced defense attorney would have said, " If you are stopped, ask why" If asked for consent to search AFTER YOU ARE TOLD YOU ARE FREE TO LEAVE, politely say no. If the police ask to come into your home to have a look around, politely say that you do not wish to let them in without a warrant" Any court in PA would dispose of ANY charges or evidence that came from a search where the above wishes were disregarded. That is why we have a constitution. But, as the video pointed out, if you have a bong sitting on your center console, any officer would not have a problem obtaining a warrant for your vehicle. If an officer speaks to you at your front door and sees your pal smoking a bong on the couch, same deal. The police are not out to get you. This mentality is instilled in many youths. This ultimatley leads to a blatant disregard for authority. It starts out innocently as a parent threatening an out of contol child by saying, "The police will come and take you to jail". It is sad that we need a driver's license, a hunting license, and a license to carry a concealed firearm, but we are all free to breed as we see fit. I am ranting, so I will stop for now, but take from the video the good points, don't ever let your rights be violated, and if needed voice your opposition to anything illegal. But, to condone illegal activity and portray the officers in the video as liars who get gold stars for messing with kids, is rediculous.
