Marsico Issues Statement on Governor's Budget Claims

Rep. Ron Marsico (R-Lower Paxton) issued the following statement today regarding the governor’s claim that he has been willing to negotiate a budget since February:

“The governor was right. He did propose a budget in February. His budget represented a $1.13 billion increase over the current year’s budget. This was obviously unfathomable and not something I could support.

“He was also correct in saying that budget talks could have begun sooner. However, instead of making himself available in Harrisburg for these talks and focusing on what’s important, our governor decided to travel the eastern seaboard focusing on the race to the White House.

“I wish the focus would have been passing a responsible budget in a timely fashion in order to do the right thing for the people of Pennsylvania. They are counting on us.

“We need to begin considering the budget that the Senate passed last week. They came up with a plan that totals $416 million dollars less than what the governor proposed in his budget. At the very least, the Senate budget is a good place to start and we need to get started immediately.”
