At this point I believe that the specific IWB holster I have been using is actually a liability in a self-defense situation and I will be seriously reconsidering their use in general. This will make summer carry in a t-shirt a little more interesting, but if any PPD give me crap, I'd be happy to tell them my story.
I too am glad that everything turned out good for you and hope they get caught soon.

That's one of the reasons I CC with a OWB holster anymore with my sub-compact. Most t-shirts cover the entire holster and gun. Yes,it does "show" sometimes when I reach for the higher shelves when the little old ladies ask me to. But overall, no one will notice or seem to care if they do. The one I use most often is by Tagua. It ain't the prettiest or nicest molded thing in the world, but it works well with three of my pistols.

And besides it can be moved around a bit when sitting in a chair or a car which makes it more comfortable mostof the time

Dan, I am glad to hear that everything worked out for you, and that all are safe. Of course, this preserves the forum as well!

Dan, we met at the full auto PMSC shoot, we are around the same build (you are prob a little thinner) and height.
I have started using a serpa OWB with untucket shirt.
The comfort of having the gun off my flesh on hot summer days is great. The grip and stability of the pistol are fantastic. And it conceals a hell of a lot better than I thought it would at just behind 3 oclock.

With a tucket shirt or tight shirt IWB is the way to go, but with comfortable loose summer clothes I have really been suprised by how well it carrys concealed. I have the model for my XD and i can put my sub-compact or my service model in it.

It's been pointed out to me that this discussion has taken a juvenile turn for the worse. Much like a juke box that only plays a song that we all hate, I'm going to stop feeding it quarters, and maybe it will stop.
Which is why my "coinage" will stay in my pockets where it can be used for more effective means. I know how I'd handle the "impending legal situation" that will occur after a defensive shooting - which is something that will be kept between myself and my legal counsel. Thus, the Lawyer vs. Lawyer thing here seems to be moot to me; to me, that's not what Dan's OP was about.

That being said: Dan, you've just shown a textbook example of self-defense executed flawlessly, without a shot fired.

Becuase Dan let his Situational Aware, a.k.a. HIS BRAIN, be his ultimate weapon, and his gun simply a tool to backup that weapon, a situation that COULD of ended up much worse (either way you look at it)......DIDN'T!

I've been fortunate enough to date to not need to draw my weapon outside of practice at the range. I'd like to hope that I'll stay as cool and follow that same textbook example Dan has displayed.

Kudos,

Dan,

Can you recount the conversation with 911? I find it interesting that you seemed to convey they were more interested in that you didn't shoot anyone more than you not getting hurt.

Also, are you in Philly? If so, perhaps we can do a lunch or dinner sometime -- I'm in New Castle County and always looking to meet with folks from the Philly area.

I am a brand new member here. I have carried weapons really my whole life.
Have been licensed in FL. for almost twenty years.
There have been four and 1/2 situations in my life where I drew and pulled down on on target. Never fired, never had to fire, never hurt anyone, thank God.
The last time, probably twelve years ago, I was the citizen "lynch pin" in a whole big deal that helped the Tampa cops get a really dangerous person off of the streets. The cops even asked me "Why didn't you just shoot the SOB when you had the chance?" I replied "He did not threaten my life or great bodily harm, otherwise you'd be calling the corroner."

You not only did everything correctly, in my oppinion, but did indeed possibly save not only your life, your girlfriend's life, and as was stated ealier by another member, maybe the dirt ball's life also. You have done an excellent job of documenting the affair and the ineptness of the 911 operator's failure to dispatch officers to a crime scene. I refer to the threatening move made against you with the shocker thing.

I have always said that I must have a guardian angel. When talking about situational awareness. It's almost like somebody slapping me on the shoulder saying "WAKE UP".

Good job!
