Regarding fire, this is the first hit on scroogle:

http://www.6mmbr.com/gunsafes.html

Read the guy's observations on fires in Los Alamos. Sounds like the best fire protection is getting additional insurance that specifically covers your stuff.

Hundreds of thousands in gold and a $7K safe - those are guys that knew what they came for. That is the biggest problem.

Safe deposit boxes - there are a lot of bad stories about those. Probably a great option for storing something of marginal value for a long time but high value (on the street or simply high value to you) for only a short time. And remember that stuff will be seized by any government authority for any reason or by the bank for delinquent payments or "computer issues."

EDIT: I don't know much about this stuff, just been looking into it.

Hope it's pretty good. A Patriot. Like some of the dudes and dames here that we've met.

Two hrs @ 1800 degrees, RSC rated, 14 - 1.50 inch bolts, electronic and mechanical opening devices, guard dog included, etc. The guns that are going in there are some of the least expensive items. If necessary, we have enough stuff around here to find our way to the safe.

Thankfully, we have plenty of flashlights that are attached to versions of one or more widely advertized hand and shoulder-based flashlight pointers.

Thinking about putting two or three 1lb cans of burgular deterrant stuff - like simulated baked beans, simulated MRE's, etc that just want to make whomever is left after the big "BANG" thankful that they can crawl to their vechicles after this debacle.
Hopefully, if they have a remaining heartbeat, it will scare them straight...

Would we need an attorney if this indeed occurred? Possibly. Is the Constitution on our side? Hopefully. What about PAFOA? Well, if whatever we're thinking about doesn't work for them, it probably doesn't work for us. So would the Gods on this thread just let us know?

Well, who really knows what Thomas Jefferson (who penned the Constitution) was thinking?

I have done quite a but a research recently......and decided to start stocking the GRAFFUNDER line......they are like no other gun safe on the market, their construction is more commercial than anything.

If you have some big dollar pieces, an expensive collection, or some NFA items, it would behoove you to setup it up in terms of security.

We are currently waiting for a batch of Graffunder safes to come, and plan of doing a post about them....

In the meantime check out http://www.graffundersafes.com/
