Doesn't look like it will apply to our Pa. LTCF.

South Carolina will now grant reciprocity with other states, provided that the reciprocal state requires an applicant to successfully pass a criminal background check and a course in firearm training and safety.

no, but assuming they don't pull that "we won't honor non-resident permits" crap, we still might be able to carry there via a utah, florida, etc. license.

Your probably right ..... I did take a NRA safety course just to do the right thing but the state didn't require it to get my LTCF so as you say it probably won't apply to us then

South Carlolina has some "different" gun laws. Glove box carry is legal but you can't carry onto another persons properety without expressed permission even with their ccw.

SECTION 16-23-20. Unlawful carrying of handgun; exceptions.
9) a person in a vehicle if the handgun is:

(a) secured in a closed glove compartment, closed console, closed trunk, or in a closed container secured by an integral fastener and transported in the luggage compartment of the vehicle; however, this item is not violated if the glove compartment, console, or trunk is opened in the presence of a law enforcement officer for the sole purpose of retrieving a driver's license, registration, or proof of insurance; or

(b) concealed on or about his person, and he has a valid concealed weapons permit pursuant to the provisions of Article 4, Chapter 31, Title 23

South Carolina will not honor a Non-Resident CCW issued by other states.

Right, here's the text:

House Version
Quote:
(N) Valid out-of-state permits to carry concealable weapons held by a resident of another state must be honored by this State.
Senate Version: (the one that passed)

Quote:
(N) Valid out-of-state permits to carry concealable weapons held by a resident of a reciprocal state must be honored by this State, provided, that the reciprocal state requires an applicant to successfully pass a criminal background check and a course in firearm training and safety. A resident of a reciprocal state carrying a concealable weapon in South Carolina is subject to and must abide by the laws of South Carolina regarding concealable weapons. SLED shall maintain and publish a list of those states as the states with which South Carolina has reciprocity.
The senate really botched that one...

I attend Clemson University and I took the SC CCW course in order to get a VA Non-resident permit. To say that SC has "different" gun laws is an understatement. SLED, the agency in charge of issuing permits, has a handout that lists over 20 places where you can not carry. For example no carry in churches, bars, etc. Also, there is no open carry in SC.

And has been stated, if you are a resident of PA you will not be able to carry in SC under the bill signed by Gov. Sanford. Rep. Pitts is the one who has been pushing the bill and the one that he introduced last year would have recognized every state's permit; however, as you can see the bill was amended in committee.
