Would you rather I describe how to use a knife in an actual self defense scenario in PC terms? Should I obfuscate the reality behind it so you dont have to get an "ick" response? |

Look. You can post anything you wish. I just don't want this forum to ever be looked at in a bad way as I respect and enjoy it very much as many others do. As a new member you should try and do the same. We all would love to say many things on this forum but most of us try to hold back certian things for the betterment of the forum's appearance to others.

And posting tough guy cliches like "dont bring a knife to a gun fight" will really help our image and assist people in taking us seriously. Yup.

And it isn't a tough guy thing. It's a fact. You will not win with a knife if the other guy has a gun and you may not win if he only has a knife. Not to mention the fact that it is easier and faster to pull a pistol from a holster and twitch a finger than a knife from the pocket and open it and slash. Finally lets not forget that a pistol is a great deterant. Just because it's out doesn't mean it has to fire. The average BG will turn and run when they see it which will remove the need for deadly force. BGs that think they are tough may decide you are bluffing and try and call you on it when they see a knife. You could end up in a struggle for your life that could have been avoided entirely just by displaying a firearm. You can keep your knife. I'm gonna keep my pistol. Maybe we will both be safe. Maybe one of us won't. I wish you the best.

"I think it would work better than explaining exactly how you would like to slash someone open."
No where does it say I would like to 'slash someone open'. "And it isn't a tough guy thing. It's a fact. You will not win with a knife if the other guy has a gun..." At medium contact ranges, say around 20', I concur. In a body-on-body grapple, nothing is for certain. "Finally lets not forget that a pistol is a great deterant. Just because it's out doesn't mean it has to fire. The average BG will turn and run when they see it which will remove the need for deadly force." This is a terrible and easily deadly assumption. A defensive handgun is not a tool of intimidation, it is to protect your life by having the ability to end anothers. "BGs that think they are tough may decide you are bluffing and try and call you on it when they see a knife. You could end up in a struggle for your life that could have been avoided entirely just by displaying a firearm." They could decide the same if you display a firearm. A struggle for your life could happen involving either a firearm, knife, or any other deadly tool. "You can keep your knife. I'm gonna keep my pistol. Maybe we will both be safe. Maybe one of us won't." Actually, Ill keep my pistol, knife, defense light, OC spray, and kubotan, along with the knowledge and preparedness to use all of them according to the situation. If your plan is to draw a firearm and hope it scares the bad guy off, I definatley wish you the best of luck as well.

You seem to carry a crapload of equipment. What's wrong with using your hands? Do you have room for a tazer, throw net, smoke grenades and bang snaps yet? j/k with ya. But you do sound like your wearing the Batman utility belt there. The point you still fail to grasp that I am trying to convey is that a pistol can be employed quicker with greater functionality than a knife even at close range if you have the practice/training. You go to a knife when the pistol is empty. When police stop high risk people do you see them pulling thier pepper spray or sidearm?
