I moved to Pike Co. about 2 ½ years ago from NY. I applied for my CCW on 3/15 and I used 2 friends of 40+ years who live in NY. My references got their ‘questioner’ about 1 week later 3/23 and mailed them back on Friday 3/30.
I went there today to get fingerprinted for the Florida non-residence LTCF (they have reciprocity with 30 states, PA only about 18). The secretary said I am approved, my app is on the Sheriff’s desk and all he has to do is sign off on it, should have it next week. The Sheriff was away last week and they had about 100 apps for him to sign. I asked the Chief Deputy who fingerprinted me if he could see where I was in the system. He said it usually takes less than 3 weeks and he checked with the Sheriff. The Sheriff was signing a bunch of apps and he did mine on the spot! 10 more min and I was on my way with my new permit! When I left, the secretary was running a stack of apps through Harrisburg. |

I had no problem. Once the letter of recommendation are in it is pretty fast. I move from NYC 2 years ago too.
Before you carry, make sure you undestand the legal implications involved. You must take it upon yourself to train to use the gun you will carry. Seek advice from other CCW's Never assume you have nothing else to learn. Being able to carry is a great responsability that has to be taken very seriously. |

And, take a safety course (if you can find one up here).
I found a great NRA instructor near Paterson, NJ who has been through a home invasion and “chooses not to be a victim”. He shoots in competitions across the country. His price was a little higher than you could find elsewhere, but limits his class to 2 students. And the emphasis is on self defense and surviving a gunfight. The bonus is when I get a chance on a Sunday to shoot at Paterson in the afternoon, he gives advice and instruction to former students free. |

There are NRA instructors at the Sunset Hill shooting range, but I have never asked if they provide advance training ..... |

That is a VERY good point. I retired from the Security Industry a few years ago. During the late 70’s I worked as an alarm technician servicing UL accounts on the overnight shift. Many times I arrived before the PD and got my CCW in NY as a first responder. In the 80’s I managed a Security company (Alarm Systems and Armed Guards) in TX and was licensed by the Texas Board of Private Security Agencies. I moved back to the Communist State of New York and took a desk job with an alarm manufacturing company and did not re-apply for my CCW (as Long Island NY needs a reason for one). I have been shot at and returned fire on more than one occasion. But, after about 10 years not firing a pistol I figured it was time to get a little coaching. I now own a Furniture Medic franchise and sometimes carry a lot of cash. I also travel to Memphis, TN about 3 times a year for advanced job training. The NRA cert was necessary to satisfy the requirements for the Florida non-residence LTCF (Florida covers some states PA does not). Not only was it a good refresher course, but a good mind setting lesson also. In the home, when something wakes me up, the first thing I may reach for is my 9mm with Hydra Shock (16 in the mag and 1 in the chamber), but I clear the house with the Defender and 7 rounds of 00. I check first that the wife is accounted for, then listen first, and take my time. As in any stressful situation the adrenaline rush may initially be overwhelming, but if you take a little time to process your surroundings you will calm down but with a heightened state of awareness. I may not be able to shoot as well as at the range under the best of conditions, but I have found that the other guy doesn’t necessarily want to put that to the test. And, at 10 feet or less, even under stress, I can get a shot into the critical mass even as the distance is closing. Although, I am not so anxious to put that to the test either, just prepared to if absolutely necessary. |

He's not at all a great guy. He supports the corruption in Pike County & township with officials and looks the other way. I live in a Community, The Pocono Woodland Lakes (PWLPOA), and there's quite a bit of corruption. Board officials get away with crime allowing members children to ride their ATV's which are illegal, yet officials are paid by certain members to look the other way and allow the crimes to take place. Phil Bueki knows this and does nothing.
